Veterinary Technician assists veterinarian with exams, surgeries, and first aid. Collects and documents case history and treatment details. Being a Veterinary Technician monitors vital signs and condition of animals being treated and provides nursing care. Takes X rays, EKG, Ultrasound, and performs various lab test including urinalysis and blood counts. Additionally, Veterinary Technician depending on state regulations, may administer anesthesia, injections, and perform dental prophylaxis, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision of a veterinarian. Instructs pet owners on how to administer medication and other animal care skills. Typically requires an associate degree. Depending on state, may require RVT certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Veterinary Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Looking for a full-time, experienced Veterinary Technician for a busy, non-corporate practice in Cottonwood Heights. We are a team oriented family practice.
Must have excellent communication skills, and be able to interact with pet owners and coworker in a positive friendly manner. Must have an understanding of animal behavior and strong clinical skills in order to properly evaluate an animal's condition and provide treatment. They must be detail-oriented and well-organized, carry out instructions, document patient stats and update records. It's also essential that they enjoy working with animals and have the ability to comfort, handle and restrain large and small pets. Previous experience with lab test and dental cleaning a plus. Candidate will be monitoring patients under anesthesia and should have basic knowledge of monitoring equipment.
