Ultrasound Technologist operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Being an Ultrasound Technologist records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. May require an associate degree in a related area. Additionally, Ultrasound Technologist typically requires completion of an accredited program in Medical Sonography. May require registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Ultrasound Technologist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Responsibilities:- Conduct a range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures such as abdominal, vascular, and obstetrical ultrasounds with a focus on accuracy and precision.
- Ensure patients are prepared for the procedure by explaining the process, providing emotional support, and ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process.
- Monitor and maintain imaging equipment, making necessary adjustments to ensure high-quality images are produced.
- Analyze images and interpret findings to determine if additional imaging or testing is required and to identify any abnormalities that require further evaluation.
- Collaborate closely with physicians and medical staff to ensure prompt and accurate diagnoses and treatments.
- Maintain accurate patient records while adhering to strict HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient privacy.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest technology and equipment to provide the highest level of patient care.
- Graduation from an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology and/or an approved program in Ultrasound, with demonstrated proficiency in operating Ultrasound equipment and plethysmography equipment.
- Associate's degree or higher in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field.
- A valid certification and registration with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
- State licensure to practice as an Ultrasound Technologist, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Physical ability to lift and assist patients of varying weights, manipulate equipment, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Excellent finger dexterity for equipment and/or PC operation, and wrist and hand/wrist repetitions for equipment handling.
- Knowledge of and competency in all OSHA requirements for the position, including the use of personal protective barrier equipment, safety procedures, and handling hazardous materials.
- Familiarity with and competence in MSDS for all items utilized in their particular area, and the location of their department's MSDS manual and/or MSDS hotline phone number.
- Understanding of and competency in blood-borne pathogen exposures and procedures, as routine duties may expose employees to potentially infectious materials.
