We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Transportation Engineer to join our team in Commerce City. As a Transportation Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, developing, administering, evaluating, and monitoring transportation plans, programs, and projects. The role involves organizing traffic engineering and transportation planning operations, including development review, design, planning, and construction.
The chosen candidate will have various important responsibilities, such as helping with Traffic Calming, creating a traffic signal inventory, developing an ADA Transition Plan, establishing a School Zone Flasher Sign Upgrade Program/Inventory, managing traffic-related work, preparing Plans/RFB’s for new CIP Projects, developing new Signal Related Maintenance Programs, tracking Traffic Signal Maintenance Work Orders, updating Crash Data monthly, conducting field checks of roadway/transportation systems, reviewing traffic control plans and obtaining necessary certifications or training, and performing data collection using various tools and systems.
Applicants should have expertise in traffic analysis, traffic engineering, and transportation planning. Familiarity with MUTCD, AASHTO codes, CDOT standards, and city standards is essential. Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills are required, as well as the capability to read blueprints and understand construction plans. The ability to work effectively in a team environment and prioritize excellent customer service is also important, as is a commitment to organizational and work safety skills and procedures.
Hiring salary is dependent upon experience.
The hiring range for this position is $77,270.37 - $104,315.00 annually.

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field and four (4) years of work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Certification as PE is preferred. Experience involving local agency transportation systems is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of traffic analysis, all-way stop and traffic signal warrants, designs, intersection analysis, and level of service calculations
- Knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO codes, CDOT standards, and City standards, and specifications
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and theory of traffic planning and engineering, including traffic calming and traffic safety
- Knowledge of roadway construction specifications, standards and practices
- Knowledge of standards and regulations governing Public Works projects and project safety
- Knowledge of construction and engineering terminology
- Knowledge of land development processes, procedures, terminology, and tasks
- Strong customer service skills, including experience and confidence with presentation and conflict resolution skills
- Strong human relations skills that support the City and department’s mission
- Ability to read blueprints and understand construction plans
- Ability to acquire and apply new skills to projects and work assignments
- Ability to use independent judgment and discretion to make decisions in the best interest of the City
