Transportation Director directs, develops, and implements overall operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Develops and directs operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Director monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to forecast and meet capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Director oversees the acquisition and oversight of transportation providers. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to top management. The Transportation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Transportation Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Director of Transportation

    Must have proficient knowledge of student transportation in areas of day-to-day operations, routing, scheduling and dispatching of school buses and school bus drivers.  Ability to      utilize electronic data collection and reporting software. Excellent organizational and communication skills; the ability to multi task and prioritize in a fast paced atmosphere.  Must possess valid New Hampshire CDL-B and school bus driver certificate. Must have a current D.O.T. physical.

    Performance Responsibilities:
    • Must be knowledgeable of safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to pupil transportation in the State of NH
    • Oversee all regular and special bus routes, schedules and stops
    • Coordinate student transportation activities with district school officials
    • Monitor order and discipline on the buses at all times and works with the bus drivers and building principals to promote good student conduct
    • Develops school bus specifications which meet the need of the district and fully comply with state and federal regulations
    • Recommend procurement of additional or replacement buses (vehicles) and disposal of old or uneconomical vehicles
    • Develop, forecast and monitor the transportation department budget with the assistance of the business administrator
    • Collect, maintain and produce all required school bus transportation reports (local, state & federal) and insures their submission on a timely basis
    • Recruit, recommend for employment and evaluations of transportation department personnel
    • Organize/Oversee bus driver training and traffic safety program training in accordance to NH State laws with assistance from Assistant Director of Transportation.
    • Monitor the general maintenance program as performed by our contracted maintenance provider, including Bi-Annual bus inspections.
    • Establish and implement operational performance standards for all transportation vehicles within the department
    • Conduct accident investigations and supervise accident reporting to appropriate law enforcement and insurance agencies
    • Evaluate safety of road conditions during inclement weather, communicating with town road agents seeking recommendations, and provide timely information to business administrator and superintendent
    • Maintain a good public relations with the community
