Transportation Director jobs in Illinois

We are growing & looking for a Director of Transportation who will lead our Logistics & Transportation Team. This person will focus on improving transportation expenses and service quality. This dynamic leader must be motivated and eager to solve complex problems in an ever-changing environment, with a focus on process optimization, data, and technology.

The Director of Transportation will analyze, evaluate, and present key findings and recommendations to drive business improvements. To be successful in this role, you will foster strong internal & external relationships and have the ability to collaborate with team members and vehicle leasing and rental vendors. Must possess strong communication skills and be able to present findings to upper management as well as manage change at the facility level when implementing new processes. Must understand high volume delivery requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develops and manages transportation financial budget and provides mitigation steps for variances.
• Manages and negotiates transportation and lease/rental rates across portfolio.
• Manages Service Level expectations across portfolio.
• Manages onboarding of leased and rental vehicles and leads goal setting and business review process.
• Audits and approves vehicle lease, rental, and repair invoicing and rate calculations.
• Manages delivery routing guides.
• Drives logistics technology initiatives and KPI creation and ongoing development.
• Ability to collaborate cross functionally within multiple levels of the organization.
• Implement new processes, services, and methods to improve the analytics, communication, service quality, and expense structure - manage all steps in the process from developing scope and measuring potential impact to implementing change and measuring observed impact.
• Creates and drives SOP documentation for delivery processes.
• Develop and execute RFP process for fleet on as needed basis.
• Ability to generate, analyze and interpret large data sets to provide analysis which answers complex business problems.
• Other duties as manager sees fit

Minimum Requirements:

• 10 years relevant experience with logistics, operations, transportation, and procedures
• 5 years direct leadership experience
• Transportation industry knowledge by mode; including safety requirements, laws, and regulations
• Strong knowledge of logistics pricing models for trucks and trailers.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with success in working across organizations at all levels.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, effective project planning in terms of resources, strategies, cost, and time with ability to meet project timelines.
• Strong computer proficiency in MS Office applications
• Proficient in Transportation Analytics tools/concepts
• Strong communication skills and ability to present findings to senior leadership
