Description: Carroll College invites applications for the position of Principal Faculty - Director of Pre-Clinical Education (DPCE). This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced PA educator to play a pivotal role in developing a new physician assistant program. The DPCE is a full-time (0.80 – 1.0 FTE) 12-month faculty appointment in the Physician Assistant Studies program with a rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. Faculty are strongly encouraged to maintain a part-time clinical practice. The DPCE will report directly to the Physician Assistant Program Director.
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the DPCE will provide oversight and direction in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the PA program’s pre-clinical education curriculum that emphasizes achievement of program learning outcomes and competencies in compliance with the ARC-PA accreditation Standards. The DPCE will ensure that pre-clinical course directors following the guidelines for the development of course syllabi, learning outcomes, and assessments. In addition, in collaboration with program faculty and under the supervision of the program director, the DPCE will oversee the pre-clinical year academic calendar with regard to scheduling course lectures, skills labs, and other activities. Teaching is expected across the curriculum and assigned according to expertise, interest, and/or need.
This position requires excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills. The ideal candidate will have prior teaching and administrative experiences in the pre-clinical (didactic) phase of PA educational curricula and a familiarity with the ARC-PA accreditation Standards. The candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and support, have excellent critical thinking, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree (or higher) from an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate program, plus a minimum of 3 years of faculty experience at an accredited physician assistant program. Must be a currently licensed physician assistant in good standing in the state of Montana or eligible to obtain licensure in Montana within 12 months of appointment. Must have a current certification by NCCPA. A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a physician assistant is required. The successful candidate must have the ability to occasionally travel to clinical sites within the state and region to conduct on-site student assessments and have a proficiency in basic computer technology and the ability to learn new course learning management system(s), learning platforms and educational technologies.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate would start on or around October 1, 2024, but no later than November 1, 2024.

About the Developing PA Program: Carroll College has applied for Accreditation - Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Carroll College's Master of Physician Assistant Studies program anticipates matriculating its first class in August of 2026 pending achieving Accreditation - Provisional status at the March 2026 ARC-PA meeting. Accreditation - Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding accreditation-provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students.
Carroll College's Physician Assistant (PA) program is designed to be an intensive 27-month curriculum leading to a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS). The college aims to matriculate the first cohort of 34 students into the program in the fall of 2026, pending provisional accreditation approval.
