Executive Managing Director - Multifamily Real Estate

  • The Executive Managing Director of Multifamily Real Estate will act as the strategic leader overseeing more than 15,000 units. In this role, they will lead an experienced team that is driven to create value for our residents and clients. This role is based out of the company’s headquarters in Farmington Hills, MI and requires periodic travel to portfolio locations concentrated in the Midwest and in other strategic markets.

    Responsibilities

    • Leadership and Development:
      • Provide strategic leadership of the multi-family division. This includes: high level goal setting, nurturing existing client relationships, identifying and overseeing market expansion opportunities, determining organizational structure, staffing and compensation levels, monitoring the division P&L, and performing other leadership responsibilities that arise.
      • Review and approve existing and proposed standard operating processes and drive initiatives for continuous improvement and efficiency in operations.
      • Be an active member of the enterprise leadership team, contributing to shared goal setting, achievement, and culture building across the organization.
    • Performance Management:
      • Host regular meetings with the multi-family operations team, accounting, and other shared services teams to evaluate progress towards goals and key performance indicators and to adjust course as needed.
      • Provide proactive property performance updates and respond to all inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
      • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws including fair housing and employment regulations.
      • Assume P&L responsibility for all managed properties and for the multifamily division as whole.
      • Provide capital expenditure program oversight.
      • Support annual budgeting process at the property and portfolio level, providing input for key revenue, cost, and CapEx assumptions.
      • Actively engage in the multi-family management division budget setting process.
    • Business Development:
      • Engage with property owners and institutions to strategically grow the multi-family management division.
      • Work with the company’s internal Acquisitions team to identify, evaluate, and close on multifamily acquisition opportunities.
      • Identify growth markets for future expansion.
      • Create and drive a new business development process through marketing, relationship cultivation, and active sales outreach.
      • Support new management contract acquisition through asset review, proposal development, contract negotiation and partnering with in-house Legal team to finalize.
    Qualifications

    • 20 years previous experience in escalating positions of responsibility within multifamily property management (5 years in senior leadership position overseeing 5 direct reports and 10,000 units).
    • Demonstrated success leading and developing teams.
    • Keen understanding of local, state, and federal fair housing regulation.
    • Successful experience with third-party management relationships.
    • Track record of effectively managing, improving, and growing property management businesses.
    • Entrepreneurial mindset (urgency, resourcefulness, action-oriented).
    • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Yardi Voyager software.
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
    • Hands-on leader with a demonstrated willingness to provide direct support and behavior modeling when needed.
    • CPM or equivalent status.
