  • Description

    This position assists in planning, organizing, and coordinating the city’s economic development activities.

    • Assists in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for economic growth programs and in support of the city’s economic development strategy.
    • Conducts research; tracks business trends, development patterns, and real estate activity; compiles statistical information;

    analyzes findings and makes recommendations.

    • Serves as point-of-contact for information and expansion-related requests from existing employers; provides technical assistance to businesses applying for federal, state, or regional incentive programs to aid in expansion and growth.
    • Assists in the preparation of marketing and promotional materials; prepares reports, letters, and other written communication;

    delivers presentations.

    • Develops and maintains relationships with the business community and community partners to foster economic growth.
    • Serves as liaison between the city and existing businesses, business organizations, and other government organizations to address concerns and resolve issues.
    • Coordinates with other city departments, divisions, outside agencies, and service providers.
    • Meets with public groups, clubs, organizations, and agencies to explain and promote programs that encourage economic growth.
    • Maintains a comprehensive current knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, codes, and regulations; conducts research and maintains an awareness of new issues, methods, trends, and advances in the profession;

    reads professional literature.

    • Assists interested businesses and industries in identifying potential sites, security city approvals, identifying financing opportunities, etc.
    • Processes and coordinates the film permitting process.
    • Performs other assigned duties.

    KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

    • Knowledge of economic development principles and practices.
    • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws relevant to department operations.
    • Knowledge of city policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
    • Knowledge of marketing, public information, and promotional techniques used in economic development.
    • Skill in collecting, analyzing, compiling, and presenting information and data.
    • Skill in interpersonal relations.
    • Skill in oral and written communication.

    SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

    • The Economic Development Director assigns work in terms of general instructions.
    • The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

    GUIDELINES

    • Guidelines include the city comprehensive plan, zoning ordinances and development regulations, the employee handbook, and city and department policies and procedures.
    • These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

    COMPLEXITY / SCOPE OF WORK

    • The work consists of related program coordination and administrative duties. The need to coordinate with a diverse set of stakeholders contributes to the complexity of the position.
    • The purpose of this position is to provide support for city economic development operations. Success in this position results in the recruitment and retention of businesses and to the positive economic development of the city.

    CONTACTS

    • Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, elected and appointed officials, business owners, property owners, leasing brokers, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, county staff, representatives of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, and members of the general public.
    • Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.
    • The work is typically performed in an office.

    Job Requirements

    • More than three years of related experience required; or
    • Any equivalent combination of education, experience, training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
    • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
    • Must successfully pass criminal background and motor vehicle record investigation.

    Salary & Benefits

    Starting Pay Range : $23.64 $30.14 per hour DOE
