Consumer Lending Underwriter

  • This position is primarily responsible for reviewing credit applications and making credit decisions in accordance with established credit union policies and standards. As part of the credit union’s lending model, these quality decisions must be made in an expedient manner enabling the credit union to meet or exceed member expectations of timeliness and overall experience.

    Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

    • Utilizes sound judgment and underwriting skills to quickly evaluation credit applications for risk.
    • Confirms completeness of application, Debt-to-Income ratios, Combined Loan-to-Value ratios, and other underwriting criteria.
    • Issues credit approvals, and/or conditional approvals, in accordance with established authority. Refers decisions beyond authority to management. Denies credit applications not in conformance with credit union standards. Is able to explain recommendations, conditions, and decisions to staff in a straight-forward, comprehensible manner.
    • Supplies information to processing staff in a consistent, coherent, and quickly digestible format, enabling clarity of what is needed to bring the loan to consummation quickly, fostering an overall positive member experience.
    • Remains keenly aware of personal, team, department, and credit union goals and is able to prioritize work to maximize the achievement of those goals.
    • Serves as a positive ambassador for the credit union’s brand and reputation in the marketplace and in the public.
    • Adheres to all applicable regulatory compliance and policy requirements.
    • Additional duties as assigned.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • 3-5 years of similar or related experience
    • (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
    • Possesses strong analytical skills, as well as math, language and reasoning proficiency.
    • Able to analyze multiple variables in a short period of time.
    • Strong desire to see members achieve their financial goals.
    • Thorough knowledge of the lending process from application to funding.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: From $25.30 per hour
