    Jackson, MS

    The Executive Director will lead our newly established organization's efforts to support and empower underrepresented small business owners in Jackson, MS. Magnolia CDC is an emerging CDFI and a subsidiary of Magnolia Federal Credit Union. As the organization's first Executive Director, you will be responsible for building the foundation and driving the growth of our programs and impact. Key responsibilities include strategic oversight of our small business lending technical assistance programs, fundraising initiatives, and organizational growth and strategy, as well as developing and overseeing a small business loan portfolio. Jackson's underrepresented business owners face unique challenges, including limited access to capital, resources, and networks, as well as systemic barriers that hinder their growth and success. The Executive Director will work to address these challenges and create equitable opportunities for all entrepreneurs in the community.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the organization, setting clear goals, objectives, and metrics for success
    • Build and lead a high-performing team, recruiting and managing staff, and fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
    • Oversee the development and implementation of small business lending technical assistance programs, ensuring they meet the needs of underrepresented entrepreneurs in Jackson
    • Lead fundraising efforts to secure grants, donations, and partnerships to support the organization's mission and programs, with a focus on building a sustainable and diverse funding base
    • Manage and optimize a small business loan portfolio, ensuring compliance, risk management, and positive outcomes for borrowers
    • Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders, partners, and funders to advance our mission and collaborate on initiatives
    • Serve as the organization's primary spokesperson, representing our mission, programs, and impact to external audiences and media
    • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Board of Directors, working closely with them to govern the organization effectively and ethically

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, community development, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in community development, small business lending, nonprofit management, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role preferred. Knowledge and expertise in SBA lending programs, including compliance and underwriting
    • Proven track record of successfully launching and scaling organizations or programs, with experience in strategic planning, team building, and change management
    • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a diverse team of professionals
    • Strong fundraising and financial management skills, with experience securing and managing large grants and donations
    • Deep understanding of and commitment to addressing the challenges faced by underrepresented entrepreneurs in Jackson, with experience working with diverse communities
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders
    • Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort with ambiguity, with the ability to navigate and thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment

    Physical Requirements

    Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in an emergency. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
