In 2017, The Kent Center based in Warwick, RI and Riverwood Mental Health Services based in Warren, RI merged and became "Thrive Behavioral Health" the following year.

    Thrive Behavioral Health, Inc. is licensed by the Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals, and the RI Department of Health, and it is a certified RI Medicaid provider. Thrive is accredited as an integrated mental health and substance agency by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) in the following programs: Child, Adolescent and Adult Outpatient Counseling, Case Management, Crisis Intervention, Health Home Teams, and Community Housing. Thrive is under contract with numerous State agencies and managed care organizations to provide a broad range of behavioral health care, educational, and consultative services in Rhode Island.

    In addition to the broad range of services provided as the Mental Health Center of Kent County, Thrive is a statewide provider Court Diversion services and Housing First services targeted to the chronically homeless.

    Thrive is a founding member of Horizon Healthcare Partners (HHP), which is comprised of three mental health centers, two substance use services agencies and two family services organizations. Under the HHP umbrella, members share joint initiatives to enhance administrative and clinical efforts.

    Thrive possesses a deep competence in providing care to individuals suffering from the symptoms of serious and persistent mental illness. We are committed to providing trauma-informed care and fostering recovery for individuals throughout Kent County, Providence, and East Bay. Thrive employs 320 full and part-time staff and has an annual operating budget of approximately $23 million.

    Position Summary

    The Thrive Behavioral Health Board of Directors seeks an innovative, experienced, and highly skilled President/CEO to work collaboratively with the Thrive Board of Directors, Thrive staff, and key community partners to lead and support all areas of the Thrive scope of services. The President/CEO should be ready and willing to fully support the Thrive clinical work, collaborate with existing and new community partners, and engage with the community to meet the changing needs of children, adults, and families. The major responsibilities of the position include:

    • Implement programs, policies and priorities established by the Board of Directors of Thrive Behavioral Health
    • Manage the activities of the organization in order to assure that services will be available and accessible and coordinated to promote continuity of care
    • Oversee the ongoing operations of all programs in the organization including overseeing employment decisions at the executive level of the company
    • Delegate authority and accountability to appropriate staff, in particular administrative personnel who have assigned managerial responsibilities
    • Coordinate activities of the organization with other organizations and groups concerned with the planning and delivery of health and social services, and facilitate and support active involvement within the business community.
    • Negotiate with other companies regarding actions such as mergers, acquisitions, or joint ventures
    • Oversee the organization’s financial structure, ensuring adequate and sound funding for the mission and goals of the company
    • Work with the board of directors and other executives to establish short-term objectives and long-range goals, and related plans and policies
    • Present regular reports on the status of the company’s operations to the board of directors and to company staff
    • Ensure the company’s compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and standards
    • Lead a team of executives to consider major decisions including acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, or large-scale expansion
    • Establish and maintain open and effective communication and collaboration among Executive Management Team
    • Promote communication and cooperation among programs to create a spirit of unity in the organization
    • Provide leadership to Thrive teams as appropriate
    • Exert a leadership role that will encourage program planning and development, program organization and operation, staff development and support, public education, intra-agency and inter-agency relationships and program evaluation
    • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with funders (local, state and national)
    • Incorporate Thrive’s mission and Guiding Principles in the performance of professional duties
    • Serve as the company’s representative to the board of directors, shareholders, employees, customers, the government, and the public

    Professional Qualifications And Personal Characteristics

    The following qualifications and characteristics are desired for this position. Additionally, the successful candidate must possess a strong ability and desire to support the mission and staff of Thrive.

    • At least 5 years of progressively increasing organizational leadership experience at the senior or executive level, preferably within community mental health centers
    • Excellent communication skills, including effective public speaking abilities

    • Enthusiasm and energy, inspirational attitude across the community
    • Capability to navigate complex policy challenges and opportunities, such as CCBHC
    • Deep understanding of programs and services for those experiencing mental health challenges

    • Person-centric, recovery orientation that leads to positive outcomes

    Required Education and Experience

    • Excellent managerial skills and the ability to take leadership over any business operations area
    • Superlative communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate as a leader
    • Thorough understanding of management and financial practices in all areas and phases of business operations
    • Extensive professional experience in leadership roles, at least 5 years managerial experience in a community mental health setting preferred
    • An advanced degree in a related field. Nonprofit management, social work, or psychology preferred, but not required
    • Demonstrate good judgment in initiating, planning, organizing, and coordinating areas of responsibility

    Compensation

    The Thrive President/CEO will receive a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience along with a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance. Also included is a 401k retirement plan, vacation time, sick leave, and paid holidays. The proposed salary range for this position will be $200,000 – $230,000.
