Tool Design Engineering Manager manages the design and development of tools and machinery to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes. Leads design reviews to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications. Being a Tool Design Engineering Manager provides expert input to resolve design issues and innovate solutions. Oversees the design, fabrication, sourcing, and procurement of fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production. Additionally, Tool Design Engineering Manager ensures design documentation and models for the fabrication of tools are accurately prepared. Controls budgets, costs, resource allocation, and materials required for tools. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Tool Design Engineering Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Tool Design Engineering Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Vice-President / General Manager, the Contract Machining - Project Manager is responsible for the management of the customer relationship and jobs on a daily basis; including sales, quoting, design concepts and machining production and profit/loss for jobs.
Duties:
-Central point of contact for customer requests - new sales, quotes, or engineering changes.
-Work with suppliers to attain cost reductions in materials and services.
-Focal contact between departments and customers to ensure requirements are being met.
-Direct workload based on customer timelines and company's availability.
-Manage job profitability by working with department supervisors to provide budgets and process the work most effectively.
-Analyze department efficiencies to ensure achievement of all performance goals and objectives are being met.
-Research, contact, and secure new sales leads to grow the contract machining division.
-Ensure completion of all paperwork, records, documents and material ordering, etc.
-Assist in development and implementation of procedures/controls to promote efficient lean operations of the organization; ensure groups follow procedures/controls.
Skills:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or CAM software.
- Experience with tooling and fabrication processes
- Ability to package projects effectively
- Familiarity with precision measuring instruments
- Mechanical knowledge for project oversight
- Strong understanding of quality control processes
- Knowledge of caliper usage for measurements
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for project design
