Testing Technician, Sr. performs standard testing processes on a variety of equipment and records and analyzes results. Records data from testing in standard formats and provides results to product and engineering teams. Being a Testing Technician, Sr. assists technical teams with recommendations to resolve testing problems, roadblocks or equipment malfunctions that impact the performance or validity of testing. May recommend changes in testing methods or equipment changes. Additionally, Testing Technician, Sr. requires knowledge of industry specific tests and testing equipment. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Testing Technician, Sr. works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.     Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    This position, ideal for a motivated, career-oriented university engineering school student striving to learn and achieve within the construction industry, has the following job responsibilities:

    • Perform field and laboratory tests as directed by the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Manager and Geotechnical Group Engineers.
    • Perform laboratory testing including soil proctor, soil moisture and plasticity, aggregate and sieve analysis, concrete compressive strength, and other standard lab tests.
    • Perform field work including testing and/or inspection of soil and aggregate field placement, footing excavations, reinforcement steel, ready-mix concrete, concrete slabs, floor flatness, masonry, and asphalt.
    • Travel to various construction sites primarily throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana, typically during daytime, normal working hours, but may include overnight and/or weekend, as needed.
    • Accurately record test results and daily field observations, including within software such as Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
    • Transport equipment, test specimens and/or documents to field personnel, laboratory, clients or other offices, and provide physical assistance in equipment set-up
    • Compose reports summarizing site and testing activities
    • Clean equipment, vehicles and work areas, and perform housekeeping within the laboratory environment
    • Assist other technicians or professional staff on tasks, and assist other departments as necessary
    • Communicate effectively with Atlas managers, engineering staff, and contractors
    • Perform all job functions within Atlas safety guidelines
    • Perform other duties as requested/required

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Experience with concrete, soils, and asphalt testing is preferred but not required
    • Valid Driver's license with good driving record required
    • Ability to accurately follow verbal and written instructions
    • Reasoning, critical thinking, mathematical (simple calculations) and language skills (read, write and speak acceptable business English)
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Physical strength, stamina and dexterity to lift and move 70 lbs, stop, bend, and stand throughout the course of up to a 12-hour work day in varying weather conditions in varying terrain
    • Ability to travel as necessary for job related duties and stay overnight out of town if required
