Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities include overseeing FYE curriculum enhancement and creation of resource materials; monitor enrollment demand to effectively manage course offerings; recruit, select, train, evaluate, and retain quality FYS instructors and peer mentors; work closely with IR, student success, and various department across campus to plan and implement targeted retention efforts; provide high-level tutoring and assistance in areas of writing; including but not limited to: organization/development, grammar, syntax, sentence structure, word choice, and mechanics of writing; Understand writing challenges of students to assist in locating and securing of appropriate services; collaborate with Student Success Center personnel and academic departments to provide tutoring and training necessary to improve overall writing skills and quality of writing for DSU students; Coordinate and conduct study skills workshops relevant to the needs of struggling writers; Manage dad-to day services offered thought Tutoring Center; Supervisor/train Tutoring Center student employees, including tutors, Supplemental Instructors, and lab monitors, in tutoring best practices; Approve weekly reports and tracking related to Tutoring Center services and overall attendance of general student, student-athletes, and at-risk students; Disseminate and collect essential documents among student employees; Collect, approve, and report student employees’ time sheets at the end of each month; Communicate regular with student employees via email and phone; and other duties as assigned. This employee works closely with First Year Experience, and developmental courses to provide services to promote student success.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Knowledge and skills required for working with college-level students. Demonstrated record of: Strong leadership, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a changing, evolving department; Integrity and commitment to developing and maintaining the highest academic standards and working with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff; Knowledge of test-taking strategies, time management, and study techniques; Knowledge of grammar, syntax, word choice, and mechanics of English language; and, basic understanding of Banner, new media (Website, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) preferred.
Salary
Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
