Founded in 1999, Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) emerged as a pioneering product development partnership in the global health sector, with a singular mission: to reduce the burden of malaria in disease-endemic countries. Working collaboratively with endemic countries and combining their scientific expertise with that of the public, private, and philanthropic sectors, MMV has fast-tracked the development and delivery of new, innovative, and affordable antimalarial therapies. Their efforts are underpinned by the belief that every individual, regardless of their economic status, should have access to effective treatments.

Over the years, MMV has played a pivotal role in the discovery, development, and delivery of antimalarial medicines, ensuring they reach those in need, especially vulnerable groups such as children and pregnant women. MMV has facilitated the development and approval of 15 new antimalarial treatments in partnership with various pharmaceutical entities. These treatments have been instrumental in saving lives, especially in regions with high malaria transmission. Through its persistent endeavors, MMV exemplifies the power of partnership and innovation in addressing global health challenges and remains steadfast in its commitment to a malaria-free world.

MMV access team in the Asia Pacific region:

The Asia Pacific region faces unique challenges in its fight against malaria, necessitating targeted and efficient strategies. The access action plan for the Asia Pacific is grounded in the seeks to address the region's specific needs and vulnerabilities and is focused around the overall goal of supporting National Malaria Control Programs and their partners achieve malaria elimination and/or significant burden reduction by 2030.

In our ongoing efforts to eliminate malaria in the Asia Pacific region, our team provides crucial technical support to National Malaria Programs (NMPs). This includes the dissemination of research, technical briefs and blogs. To enhance these efforts, we require the expertise of a Technical Writing Consultant who can assist us in producing high-quality content on an ad hoc basis. The Consultant should be located in: Thailand, India, Indonesia

Objective

The primary objective of this consultancy is to support our team by providing specialized technical writing services. The consultant will focus on creating accessible, informative, and engaging content that aligns with our goals of malaria elimination.

Scope of Work

The Technical Writing Consultant will be responsible for the following tasks.

• Publications: Assist in the writing, editing and finalisation of publications on implementation studies and research findings. The consultant will help in conveying complex information in a clear and comprehensible manner, suitable for academic and professional audiences.
• Blogs: Produce blogs that highlight MMV and the MMV hosted APMEN Vivax Working Group activities and outputs; advancements in malaria elimination, and insights into effective strategies to support elimination. These blogs should be engaging to a wide range of readers, including stakeholders, policymakers, and the public.
• Technical Briefs: Prepare technical briefs detailing new tools, strategies, and approaches in the fight against malaria. These briefs should succinctly inform decision-makers and practitioners about critical developments and evidence-based recommendations.
• Team meetings: The technical writer is expected to coordinate with team members leading on different papers/blogs and briefs to understand the topic areas and come to alignment on what is needed to develop drafts and subsequently finalise. Reviews and feedback will be provided from the team to the technical writer, and these are expected to be incorporated (if relevant/feasible) into the publications/blogs or technical briefs.

Location: Remote within the Asia Pacific region ( /- 3 hours from Bangkok time zone) Thailand, India, Indonesia

Deliverables

• Publications, and publication revisions based on reviewer comments; blogs, and technical briefs produced on an ad hoc basis, according to project needs and timelines.
• Content that meets high standards of clarity, accuracy, and relevance, tailored to target audiences.

Skills and Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in technical writing, with a strong portfolio in public health, epidemiology, or related scientific fields.
• Ability to distil complex scientific information into clear, reader-friendly content.
• Proficiency in research, writing, and editing in English.
• Knowledge of malaria elimination strategies and public health principles is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
• Fluent English speaker
• Diploma or Masters in global or public health or other related field, or equivalent experience writing on global or public health topics
• 5 -7 years of experience

Collaboration and Reporting

The Technical Writing Consultant will collaborate closely with the project team, including researchers, public health experts, and MMV team based in the Asia Pacific region (Program Manager and Technical Coordinator), and will report to the MMV Regional Advisor. He/She will also work very closely with the MMV Geneva based team, and especially the Associate Director, Advocacy and Communications. He/she will also be responsible for ensuring that any public communication material (eg. Blogs, publications and technical briefs) are submitted for MMV review and that comments and revisions from the MMV review system are addressed prior to release. Coordination and progress updates will be managed through regular meetings and communications.
