Business Data Analyst
The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA), a prominent Washington, D.C. non-profit association devoted to supporting the work of its 68 members, which include the securities regulatory agencies from the 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the District of Columbia, Guam, Canada, and Mexico, is seeking to hire a Business Data Analyst. This position is based in the Washington D.C. office and is eligible to participate in NASAA’s hybrid work schedule, providing employees with up to 3 days remote work per week. Position Description and Requirements
The Business Data Analyst will be part of the NASAA Operations Team and serve as a corporate office liaison to NASAA member project groups. Working with corporate office teams and NASAA members, this individual will transform and analyze datasets into visualizations and reports that can be understood by non- technical stakeholders. He or she will help develop and prioritize data initiatives to meet strategic planning goals, maintain data systems and procedural documentation, and participate in vendor compliance audits and initiatives. The Business Data Analyst will document and analyze existing data and assess if supplemental data is needed to meet organizational needs.
This individual will support various teams with data initiatives for programs and systems used by state securities regulators in carrying out certain regulatory responsibilities. Such programs and systems include Central Registration Depository (CRD), Investment Advisor Registration Depository (IARD), NASAA's Examination Modules System (NEMO), NASAA's Enforcement Database (NED), and the Electronic Filing Depository (EFD).
Position Responsibilities
- Work with various business units on NASAA’s data initiatives for CRD/IARD, NEMO, NED, and EFD.
- Enhance data collection and practices through NEMO.
- Assume the responsibility for enhancing NED including web scraping and searching functions.
- Assist EFD team members in managing EFD system data and reporting on such data.
- Support and enhance data practices for other operational areas within the corporate office (such as financial data, HR data, website, and social media metrics).
- Collaborate with team members on system compliance (SOC) audits.
- Develop database management procedures, technical documentation, and report query specifications.
- Develop a data governance program, including maintaining and monitoring data integrity and consistency.
- Collaborate with NASAA corporate office teams to recommend and implement solutions for business intelligence.
- Build solutions to automate existing manual workflows and reports.
- Work with securities regulators to analyze trends in securities regulatory activities and the industry.
- Evaluate, recommend, and participate in the selection of data analytics tools and data warehouse components, including database management systems, ETL software, data mining tools, and meta data management tools.
- Gather requirements from end-users and create advanced queries and reports.
- Troubleshoot problems with database vendors and outside consultants as needed.
- Keep abreast of developments and trends in database/CRM management and data analytics and propose improvements and advancements for the organization’s information systems.

Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Python and SQL for data management and analysis.
- Strong data visualization skills using Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar technologies.
- Understanding ETL processes and the ability to work with statistical software.
- Familiarity with data warehousing architecture, including cloud services such as AWS and Azure.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non- technical audiences.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Skills
- Expertise with Microsoft 365 suite, including Excel and SharePoint.
- Experience with CRM systems, preferably Salesforce, to manage and analyze stakeholder data.
- Proficiency with project management tools like Jira and Confluence to track tasks and workflows.
- An understanding of Data Privacy laws.
- Experience with financial analysis, and operational modeling.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in Business, Computer Science, or Information Systems Management with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience related to data analytics, data visualizations, and supporting database management in a business environment.
