      POSITION OVERVIEW
      Under direction of the Assistant Superintendent, the Building Principal provides the school-based leadership required to sustain focus of improving instruction for the purpose of increasing the achievement of all students in a safe learning environment while ensuring the orderly and efficient operation of the school.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
      The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
      • Assumes responsibility for the organization, administration, and supervision of the school’s instructional program.
      • Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.
      • Prepares and administers the school budget and supervises school finances.
      • Communicates a clear vision of excellence and continuous improvement consistent with the goals of the school district.
      • Work collaboratively with the community to interpret and explain school policies and programs.
      • Coordinates and evaluates using State and/or District procedures the performance of the professional staff members and support staff.
      • Designs programs to improve the performance of the professional staff members and support staff.
      • Selects professional and support staff for the school.
      • Plans and executes procedures for obtaining and maintaining approved instructional materials and equipment.
      • Implements a pro-social discipline plan to create a positive learning climate.
      • Effectively uses school personnel in the delivery of services to students.
      • Work collaboratively with District Office staff to implement district initiatives.
      • Plans programs of study and schedules classes to meet individual needs.
      • Implements and evaluates programs to meet student needs.
      • Establishes and manages programs to implement IDEA regulations (IEP’s and 504’s).
      • Provides initiative and leadership for organizational improvements.
      • Maintains staff and student records and provides appropriate documentation when asked.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
      Below are the qualifications for this position:
      • Must hold a State of Delaware Principal Certification.
      • Master’s degree in educational administration.
      • Must have at least at least five years of successful teaching experience and three years of successful experience as an administrator (Assistant Principal or Principal).
      • Experience in Early Childhood and Special Education preferred.
      • Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a leadership development program.
      • Experience working with a diverse student and staff population.
      • Demonstrate leadership strengths in curriculum and professional development, school-based management and program innovation.
      • Demonstrate leadership skills to coordinate the efforts of teachers, support staff, parents, and community agencies to maximize the personal and intellectual development of students and a strong knowledge and understanding of Appoquinimink School District’s mission and philosophy.
      • Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills.
      • Excellent writing skills.
      • Knowledge of best practices.
      • Demonstrate proficiency with technology.
      • Demonstrate pursuit of continued professional growth.
      • Knowledge and experience in implementing a standards-based curriculum to improve all students’ performance.
