Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. This is a full-time permanent opportunity that will offer a generous base salary, a lucrative benefits package and bonus incentive, and substantial opportunities for growth. This individual will be responsible for managing all OSHA requirements and activities for compliance and workers compensation process including return-to-work programs. Develop and implement programs including training and work instructions to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.

    Responsibilities:
    • Develops or enhances accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into the operational policies of the organization
    • Compiles, analyzes and interprets statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents and prepares reports
    • Maintains liaison with outside organizations, such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams to assure information exchange and mutual assistance and participates in activities of related professional organizations
    • Coordinates safety activities of unit managers to ensure implementation throughout the organization
    • Maintains and develops required compliance manuals and training programs
    • Coordinates with the Environmental Department concerning various regulatory compliance and best practices activities affecting the environment, health, and safety on the client campus
    • Assumes a leadership role during safety-related injury investigations and regulatory compliance audits
    • Actively participate in the scheduling and attendance of safety committee meetings across divisions to review safety performance and policies
    • Creates and maintains a culture reflective of a commitment to an illness and injury-free workplace
    • Develops, implements, and delivers training programs and schedules for staff to meet both regulatory requirements and best practices
    • Will become certified and maintain certifications for training common programs that client requires such as confined space entry, Lockout-Tag-Out, safety harness usage, etc.
    • Lead people and processes using Servant Leadership principals
    • Maintains regular and reliable attendance
    • Accurately complete all required documentation
    • Maintain all work areas to 5S standards
    • Represent client company with the highest standard of professional conduct when interacting with coworkers, customers, vendors, and agency personnel
    • Follow all company policies
    • Follows and promotes company core values

    Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

    • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree specializing in occupational health and safety and 5 years of related experience, or equivalent
    • Strong in building positive relationships at all levels of the company and with stakeholders
    • Experience with regulators
    • Seasoned presentation skills preferred
    • Expert level with all laws related to Health, Safety, workers compensation, and OSHA
    • Production operations experience including leadership positions preferred
