Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • The role of a Safety Director in construction is to provide the most important support service for construction personnel—safety. The goal of Safety Director is to help all Employees to execute their tasks safely. To do so, Safety Directors conduct, site inspections, assess different work conditions, adhere to the health and safety protocols imposed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and identify possible work-related safety issues and risks on projects, with the purpose of designing appropriate solutions to prevent issues from arising.

    The Safety Director ensures that all employees are in a safe environment by continuously implementing, evaluating, and monitoring health and safety protocols. They also develop and implement strategies to control risks in the workplace and assure that the company complies with workplace safety regulations.

    Safety Director Responsibilities

    • Develop and ensure operator qualifications and safe equipment operating techniques.
    • Plan, lead, and participate in company wide and job site safety meetings.
    • Conduct monthly safety committee meetings with team supervisors.
    • Review and update monthly, all site-specific safety plans with the project teams.
    • Follow up with subcontractor representatives, employees, and supervisors to ensure proper disciplinary procedures.
    • Implement, inspect, and maintain job sites and office manuals.
    • Train employees in various safety procedures according to the construction safety management plan.
    • Conduct routine (weekly) safety inspections on all job sites to ensure safety procedures are in place. Implement disciplinary procedures when non-compliance with company policies is discovered.
    • Record and compile data, update logs, monitor equipment, and schedule maintenance.
    • Update and maintain the company’s contingency and recovery plan.
    • Perform and oversee the investigation of accidents, injuries, and unsafe working conditions including interfacing with workers’ compensation claims.
    • Communicate with injured workers and plan return to work strategies.

    Safety Director Qualifications

    • 5 year experience in construction safety and health program management.
    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification
    • Knowledge of OSHA, local safety laws, and other regulatory agencies.
    • Holds OSHA certification(s).
    • Sound/ethical judgment, strong leadership skills, and ability to work independently. 
    • Ability to follow and uphold company policies and procedures. 
    • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite.
    • CPR/First Aid Certified.
    • Experience working on commercial and/or civil construction projects.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
