    Action Lab, EdPlus at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking an Academic Researcher to join our dynamic, interdisciplinary research team. The Action Lab team drives continuous improvement in online, hybrid, and emerging

    modes of teaching and learning in higher education through rigorous scholarly research. Action Lab is a

    learning laboratory inside EdPlus that creates functional data flows and scholarly research reports to

    support operational strategy across the ASU Enterprise. With an emphasis on online learning, Action Lab

    provides tailored data services and co-informed analyses to support student success from initial interest

    through graduation. Action Lab works on transformational projects to increase the scale of learning

    through rigorous scholarly research committed to improving equity, inclusivity, and the quality of

    education for learners everywhere.

    Our research is action and operationally-oriented; supporting and coordinating with university

    stakeholders to improve student learning, motivation, and persistence, and increase equity across the

    university. As an integral member of the EdPlus Action Lab, this Action Lab Researcher will collect and

    analyze qualitative data that informs evidence-based instructional practices, pedagogy, engagement, and

    educational technology. Specifically, this role will support new and ongoing qualitative research on ASU’s

    partnership with Dreamscape Learn that implements virtual reality for education. This role will

    collaborate on research investigations to enhance tactical and strategic decision-making, improve

    instruction, ensure quality courses, promote student success, and increase equity in representation and

    achievement for a wide variety of diverse populations.

    The ideal candidate will bring strong skills in qualitative data collection and analysis; knowledge of

    research methodology in an education setting; a passion for improving and equalizing student learning

    and success across all demographic groups; and is eager to participate in opportunities for professional

    growth including team dynamics, presentation, research methods, and storytelling.

    Essential Duties:

    • Performs literature reviews to inform research design on a wide variety of projects.
    • Participates in research design and drafts Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols governing research projects.
    • Collects qualitative data through interviews, focus groups, observations, text, and others.
    • Cleans qualitative data for further analysis using QDA software.
    • Collaborates and works with multiple stakeholders and groups across the University to conduct and oversee qualitative research to inform evidence-based instructional practices, pedagogy, engagement, and technology.
    • Collaborates on research investigations to enhance tactical and strategic decision-making, improve instruction, ensure quality courses, promote student success, and increase equity in representation and achievement for a wide variety of diverse populations.
    • Communicates with internal and external constituencies to obtain necessary information.
    • Prepares and presents research findings to various audiences on research results.
    • Supervises, monitors, or coordinates the activities of research-focused student workers.
    • Seeks, evaluates, and assists in implementing new and emerging technologies that have potential value for both research purposes and online teaching/learning.
    • Conducts and assists with the development of long- and short-range goals that influence tactical and strategic decision-making, improve instruction, ensure quality courses, and promote student success.
    • Organizes, and follows through with best our team practices of organizational structure for managing a high volume of research files.
    • Ability to track, manage, and prioritize daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in a related field AND three years of experience in research, information analysis or

    program evaluation; OR, Master's degree in a related field AND one year of experience in research,

    information analysis or program evaluation; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or

    experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Evidence of a PhD preferred, preferably in the social sciences or a related discipline; will consider ABD graduating end of calendar 2024.
    • Evidence of skills in qualitative data collection and analysis
    • Experience working with Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols
    • Experience in education research and practice
    • Experience in virtual reality research
    • Experience/strong interest in research that advances inclusive excellence
    • Ability to translate research findings into general audience language and willingness to refine writing to meet the need for seamless clear communication
    • Evidence of effective communication and collaboration skills
    • Experience with QDA software such as ATLAS.ti
    • Experience with Slack, Monday, Qualtrics, Miro, and Google Workspace

    Working Environment

    EdPlus at ASU is located at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. The center houses a diverse business community that links technology, research, education, and entrepreneurship to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as global leaders in the knowledge economy.

    Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.

    EdPlus at ASU supports flexible work options, ranging from alternate work schedules to hybrid remote work schedules, subject to approvals per ASU policy. (This is not a fully remote position.)
