Public Relations Director directs and implements a company's public relations strategies. Manages media relations, announcements, editorial placement, and speaking opportunities. Being a Public Relations Director evaluates and authorizes all forms of communication regarding the organization for release to the public. Develops press releases, white papers and supporting materials. Additionally, Public Relations Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Public Relations Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. The Delaware State Education Association (“DSEA”) is seeking applicants for the position of Director of Public Relations and Communications. The person selected will be responsible for the development, organization, and implementation of DSEA’s communications program, directed towards the public and external organizational and affiliate needs. The successful candidate will devise program guidelines and policies, oversee implementation processes, and provide quality control for the communications program, media activities, and special events. In addition, the individual must be able to work effectively with colleagues, work teams, external groups, and state and local association leaders.
Responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications
· Proven work experience in public relations or similar field
· Expertise in digital communications such as understanding social media trends, planning, and design – preferably with experience using planning software (Sprout Social, Linktree, etc.)
· Excellent communication and presentation skills with confidence to serve as the organization’s spokesperson – experience in media relations preferred
· Creative abilities – experience in Adobe Creative Suite, Drupal, or website management preferred
· Ability to foster long-term relationships with key stakeholders
· Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines
· Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or related field – preferred
