Property Casualty Underwriting Director directs and oversees the property/casualty insurance underwriting program for individuals and/or groups. Ensures the quality and integrity of underwriting activities and processes. Being a Property Casualty Underwriting Director develops guidelines and procedures regarding risk exposure, application renewal, acceptance, modification, and denial. Manages staff of property/casualty underwriters at the organization. Additionally, Property Casualty Underwriting Director provides assistance to underwriters on more complex applications. Has extensive knowledge of the underwriting discipline. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically requires certification as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). Typically reports to top management. The Property Casualty Underwriting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Property Casualty Underwriting Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Essential Functions And Primary Duties- Provide service delivery to an assigned block of personal insurance clients
- Resolve moderately *complex customer service problems directly
- Act as an outward-facing, dedicated resource for assigned accounts, with direct client contact on assigned accounts
- Build relationships with clients and serve as the primary point of contact for overall and day-to-day service delivery
- Represent client internally and coordinate with other functions to implement client systems, complete projects, and address ongoing service needs
- Escalate client concerns when appropriate
- Assist client services management in conducting client meetings as needed
- Inputs data into appropriate software for vendors/carriers/clients within required timeframe
- Participate with new client set-up, renewals, and meetings
- Establish and preserve a solid business rapport with clients and vendors
- Discuss with clients applicable legislation and market trends
- Ensure that all internal controls and procedures are followed
- Generate client interest in additional lines of coverage
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
- May provide guidance and direction to less experienced client service staff
- Complexity is based on the degree of uncertainty, financial risk, technical requirements, urgency and volume or size.
- Bachelor's degree
- Valid Property & Casualty License
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 3 to 5 years customer service experience in the insurance industry required
- Must maintain current required licenses and certifications relevant to field of expertise
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
- Effective customer service skills
- Proficient use of applicable technology
- Ability to work in team environment as well as independently
- Must be able to travel based on client and business needs
