Professor - Computer Science teaches courses in the discipline area of computer and information sciences. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Computer Science provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Computer Science typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks a Assistant Professor of Practice - Computer Science - Part-Time to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by demonstrating academic excellence and the potential for distinctive contributions to the holistic development of students. Area of specialization is open, but candidates should be able to assist the department in one or more of the following areas: Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Graphics, Operating Systems, Programming Languages, Computer Architecture, Information Technology, and Database Systems. Professors of Practice will also facilitate relationships with their full-time employer for undergraduate project and internship opportunities. Appointments may begin as early as Fall 2023. Specific courses and academic terms to be determined by the Chair of Mathematical and Computational Sciences based on instructional need. Applicants with any level of Computer Science education, at least 5 years of work experience, and a passion for undergraduate teaching are invited to apply.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, through transformative education unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, institutional policies.
    • Teach up to 3 courses per semester by arrangement with the Chair of Mathematical and Computational Sciences and the Computer Science faculty.
    • Provide connectivity with The Exchange toward internship and employment opportunities in the field.
    • Engage in research, scholarship, and other professional activities.
    • Mentor students through projects, research, and internship opportunities as able.

    Required Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computers Science.
    • 3 years as a practicing computer scientist.
    • Enthusiasm for experiential undergraduate education.
