Professor - Communication teaches courses in the discipline area of communication. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Communication provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Communication typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.   • The ideal applicant will teach a minimum of 15 credits (or 9 if teaching all graduate courses) per term (fall/spring), which may include in-person, online, day, evening, weekend, off-campus, or distance education courses. Will teach communication studies courses in the undergraduate program and communication theory, research methods and other core courses in the graduate program. Will manage all aspects of the Department’s assessment and accreditation reports. Will represent the Mass Communication department serving as special liaison to the University’s athletic program and will assist in recruiting, advising, and registering students. Will serve on university committees and assume other responsibilities as requested.The Department of Mass Communication desires applicants with a commitment to the University’s mission; the mission of historically black colleges and universities; teaching, learning, and student success; integration of learning outcomes assessment into course development and teaching; use of current and emerging technologies to enhance instruction; and other responsibilities that contribute to the progress of the University.
