Dometic Marine’s facility in Huntsville, AL specializes in mobile power solutions and manufactures engine ignition replacement parts, DC charging systems, and battery monitoring systems for boats.
Summary:
This position will work as part of a cross-functional team developing firmware for products focused on Marine AC / DC charging systems, lithium-ion battery integration, connectivity, and mobile power solutions for inboard and outboard leisure craft. The Firmware engineer may also support product development (design, verification, validation, launch and support), develop user applications, and automate lab test equipment.
Main responsibilities:
• Firmware Development: Design, implement, and optimize firmware applications on target hardware platforms, ensuring robust functionality and performance.
• System Integration: Develop network connectivity and vessel integration solutions to combine and enhance functionalities for multiple products.
• Review: Participate in code reviews, software design reviews, and cross-functional design reviews.
• Documentation: Prepare technical documentation such as design specifications and test plans.
• Testing and Validation: Develop and execute unit tests, integration tests, and system tests to verify software functionality and performance. Participate in system testing and field testing.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical and mechanical engineers, software developers, and product managers, to ensure successful product launches.
• Technical support: Support internal teams and external customers. Troubleshoot and deliver updated firmware to address field issues and improve product functionalities.
Requirements
We believe that the ideal candidate has the following qualifications and experiences:
• University or Technical Institute qualifications in Software engineering, Computer Science, Electrical engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in firmware development; candidates with 5 years are preferred.
• Strong proficiency in software and/or firmware design, validation and documentation.
• Experience in developing firmware applications in C, C , Rust and/or assembly for 8-32 bit Microcontrollers such as the ARM Cortex-M and Microchip PIC families desired.
• Strong proficiency with version control systems such as Git. Familiarity with related tools (GitHub, GitLab, Jira, etc) and workflows is a plus.
• Demonstrated experience with functional testing, unit testing, and CI/CD is a plus.
• Working experience with one or more communications protocols such as CAN, SPI, I2C, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth a plus.
• Familiar with lithium batteries and battery management is a plus.
• Familiar with power invertors and chargers including AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion is a plus.
• Strong proficiency with MS Office programs including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• Strong understanding of hardware/software interface issues and understanding of hardware system designs.
• Proficiency with engineering tools such as oscilloscope, multimeter, or logic analyzer.
