Sr Communications Tech
This position provides technical support with the installation, operation, and maintenance of various types of communications equipment such as land mobile radio equipment, microwave and fiber optic transmission system equipment, telephone, internal paging, intercom, and other types of electronic equipment in order to ensure that District communication capabilities meet service level and operational requirements. This position is expected to have a broad knowledge of all aspects of communication technologies and in-depth knowledge of designated technologies. This position will also assist with work activity guidance, skills mentorship, support self-learning, knowledge transfer and on the job training of department Communications Technicians.
Operations Support: Install, operate, and maintain communications equipment including mobile radio equipment, base stations, microwave and fiber optic transmission system equipment, and telephone, data, intercom, and other types of electronic equipment. Fulfil system requests, support tasks related to change management activities and respond to system incidents within established service level agreements.
- Support and implement preventative maintenance work activities per defined schedules
- Troubleshoot system problems in order to maintain communication system reliability
- Test, repair, and rebuild various types of electronic equipment
- Locate the source of customer radio and television interference complaints (RFI)
- Support an implement preventative maintenance work activities per defined schedules
- Ensure Business Partner requests are being completed and incidents are being resolved within established target completion dates and with high quality
- Ensure systems are running efficiently and optimally by leveraging monitoring and alerting of aberrant conditions
- Support the mitigation of operational problems caused by equipment failures, interference by outside sources, and/or degradation of systems
- Identify opportunities to create procedures and/or defined processes
- Provide input, update existing and/or create task-level documentation and procedures to facilitate the execution of daily work tasks
- Conduct on the job training (OJT) of Communication Technicians and recommend additional training solutions to management
- Must be able to work and install high voltage DC and low voltage AC circuits.
Project Delivery: Participate as a technical resource on assigned projects/work efforts to deliver life cycle management programs, enhancements to existing systems or implementation of entirely new technology solutions.
- Support planning and execution activities in support of work effort and project initiatives as assigned by Supervisor and as designed and scheduled by engineering staff and/or project managers.

Qualifications
Required:
- Requires a minimum of 7 years of equivalent work experience or an Associate's Degree in electronics technology or a related discipline and a minimum of 5 years experience with:
- Installing, operating, and maintaining telecommunications equipment in one or more of the following areas:
- Troubleshooting system problems in order to maintain communication system reliability.
- Testing, repairing, and rebuilding various types of equipment.
- A valid Driver's License
- Must qualify for Fort Calhoun and NERC unescorted access
Desired:
- A Valid General Radio Telephone Operator License.
- Experience locating the source of customer radio and television interference complaints.
- Bachelor's of Science degree in an engineering or computer science related field.
- A certification.
- Network certification.
- AMI FAN experience
