Being a Physician Assistant - Specialty orders and interprets appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests. Participates in daily patient rounds, writes progress notes, conducts patient education, writes prescriptions, and prepares discharge summaries. Additionally, Physician Assistant - Specialty requires completion of the PANCE exam administered by National Commission of the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Requires a master's degree in Health Sciences for Physician Assistants or related. Requires Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C). Requires State license to practice. Typically reports to a physician. Neurosurgery
The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Missouri is excited to announce an opening for a Nurse Practitioner - Specialty Care or Physician Assistant - Specialty Care. This individual will act as a physician extender for the collaborating surgeons of the Department of Neurosurgery. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of autonomy and expert skills in the diagnosis and treatment of actual and potential health problems. The primary duties of this position include:
* Perform consultations of inpatients and emergency room patients in conjunction with the neurosurgery residents and attendings.
* Medical Management of the Neurosurgery inpatient population within the scope of an Advanced Practice Provider.
* Obtain and document a focused history and physical and be able to relate other aspects of a patient's medical information to their neurological and surgical care.
* Assist with inpatient census and coordinate surgical case load.
* Participate in patient and family education to include planning and directing care.
* Review patient treatment plans and order tests, diagnostic laboratory and radiological services, and order therapies, medications, blood products, IV solutions.
* Visit and monitor progress of patient as liaison for physician and counsel patients regarding mental and physical health using established procedures as outlined in the established protocol or as approved by a licensed physician.
* Manage discharge planning for inpatients together with the neurosurgery team and other services.
* Possible 1st assist in OR with appropriate faculty guidance.
* Other duties as assigned.

May possess a specialty certificate by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), the Pediatric Certification Nursing Board (PCNB), and the National Certification Corporation (NCC). Licensure as a registered professional nurse in the State of Missouri and must be granted "Document of Recognition" as a certified nurse practitioner from the Missouri State Board of Nursing
