PC Maintenance Technician installs, troubleshoots, and repairs computer systems, hardware, and computer peripherals. Resolves internal user problems and ensures correct operation of personal computers. Being a PC Maintenance Technician maintains parts inventory and logs all service/repair activity. May perform system setups for new hires. Additionally, PC Maintenance Technician may require an associate degree or its equivalent. Typically reports to a project leader or supervisor. The PC Maintenance Technician possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Under the direction of the Technology Director and Deputy Director is primarily responsible for ensuring the operation and availability of the County's network computers and all related peripheral devices. The role is also responsible for configuring, installing, maintaining, and provides support for networked and standalone computers. These tasks are completed by using either desktop or network-based software. In addition, the PC Technician role also provides user training and general help desk services to all users in the County complex and at remote locations.
1. Configure and install desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, telephones, fax machines, and other infrastructure equipment.
2. Install and configure software and PC drivers.
3. Maintain and repair peripheral devices.
4. Manage network components such as VLAN and IP assignments.
5. Troubleshoot system failures and provide solutions to restore functionality.
6. Provides help desk services, training, troubleshooting and support services to users for all IT assets.
7. Install, terminate, and test network cabling.
8. Maintains a reliable inventory of all agency issued hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
9. Train and collaborate with other team members.
10. Must be able to work onsite at the Eaton County governmental complex as well as satellite office locations.
11. Attends seminars and workshops, reads professional journals and otherwise stays abreast of changing technology.

Associate degree preferred with course work in PC-based applications. Strong knowledge of various Microsoft Windows operating systems, Anti-Virus, Networking hardware, Email, and TCP/IP topologies. Must be capable of using hand tools, installing equipment, and cabling systems. PC repair technician certification (i.e. A certification) highly preferred.
Two years of experience supporting a diverse collection of hardware and software products in a campus-style environment. Previous experience with word processing and spreadsheet software. Demonstrated ability to train users on desktop hardware and software products.
