Paving, Surfacing, and Tamping Equipment Operator operates a mechanical machine to lay gravel, stone, and cold-mix asphalt on road surfaces. May require a high school diploma or its equivalent and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Being a Paving, Surfacing, and Tamping Equipment Operator is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Additionally, Paving, Surfacing, and Tamping Equipment Operator performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. - Operating equipment in a safe and efficient manner under varying weather conditions, while exposed to dampness, fumes, dust, electrical, mechanical and traffic hazards.
- Routine maintenance on the equipment, to include keeping equipment clean and operable.
- Communicate with foreman and coworkers to the daily job specifications.
- Perform general labor duties when necessary and work with labor crew when not operating equipment.
- Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.
- Work with powered and non-powered hand tools (i.e., rakes, shovels, etc.).
- Work in a variety of positions throughout the day including standing, stooping, bending at the waist, at waist level, shoulder height and above the head.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel with some overnights possible.
- Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions including hot and cold temperatures and humidity.
- Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used on construction projects.
- Ability to properly follow company policies and OSHA/MSHA requirements for safe working procedures and environments.
- Willingness to undergo a background check, physical, drug, and alcohol testing.
