About the Team & Role
The WEX SQL Server Database Administrator will be responsible for the maintenance, performance, monitoring, and recoverability of the SQL database environments. This role will be part of a team which is responsible for the health and stability of the entire SQL Server Database platform.
How you'll make an impact
Provide support for production databases including performance monitoring, daily management to prevent data loss, unplanned downtime or performance degradation.
Install, administer, and maintain schema and data to ensure maximum availability.
Analyzes and resolves problems associated with server hardware and application software
Monitor and optimize data lake ingestion processes
High-level knowledge with SQL Server internals, database design, T-SQL, backup/restore, SSIS, security and understanding of performance tuning and troubleshooting.
Participates in a 24x7x365 OnCall Rotation
Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and testing exercises
Experience you'll bring
7 years of overall IT experience working with SaaS or web development
5 years of hands-on SQL Server Database administration
3-5 years experience with SQL Server Extended Events
Proficient using Powershell
5 years of managing SQL Server Database in Azure
5 years of hands-on experience with a data ingestion tool (ELT or ETL tools)
Experience with Azure DevOps
Experience with AWS Core Services (Amazon CloudWatch, Amazon Security Hub)
Desired Additional Qualifications
Experience of SQL system DMVs to identify and troubleshoot performance problems
Tuning or refactoring stored procedures to improve performance
Knowledge of supporting SQL Server Availability Groups
Experience with SQL 2016
Knowledge with ETL tools and management
Knowledge of SSDT projects and experience with Source Control especially TFS and GitHub in Azure DevOps
Knowledge and experience with industry standard change and incident management procedures
Self-starter capable of working independently or in groups
