Design Electrical Nuclear Engineer III/Sr Summary This job posting is for an Electrical/I&C Engineer within plant engineering design support group. The Duke Energy McGuire Nuclear Station Design Support Engineering (DSE) group is responsible for protecting the design basis for the station. DSE is responsible for the preparation and development for engineering solutions that includes risk reduction, equipment obsolescence, and plant modernization. In addition, DSE provides support to routine assessments that ensures McGuire is designed and operated in accordance with governing codes and standards. The McGuire DSE team works closely with systems engineering, operations and maintenance to ensure optimal engineering solutions are developed to meet plant needs. The team collaborates with other design engineering staff and station management to ensure high quality design solutions are delivered consistent with established nuclear processes and standards. Responsibilities Demonstrates high conduct of safety culture (personal, nuclear and environmental). The McGuire DSE team manages the development, design, and implementation of limited scope plant modifications to McGuire Nuclear Station. The team also supports operations and maintenance questions and troubleshooting on electrical and I&C component issues. For plant modifications, the individual will be responsible for developing the scope, technical basis, installation and testing requirements for plant modifications installed in the plant. Ongoing support of assigned engineering changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support activities is required. Research engineering and design issues, evaluates alternatives, determines and presents recommendations to resolve issues. Provide ongoing support of assigned engineering design changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support activities. Develop or revise design specifications or technical requirements documents to support engineering design changes. Develop or revise complex engineering calculations impacted by engineering design changes. Develop safety screens and evaluations that support engineering design changes. Revise site design basis documents, design drawings, and regulatory documents impacted by engineering design changes. Conduct formal self-assessments and benchmarking to ensure McGuire engineering performance remains industry best. Lead or support McGuire Engineering during internal and external audits and inspections. Basic Qualifications Nuclear Engineer III Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master 's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. 4-6 years of engineering experience. Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience. Sr Nuclear Engineer Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree. Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer. Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program will be considered in lieu of a B.S engineering degree. Proficient in engineering theories and principles. Proficient in principles of project management. Experience in the utility industry. State registration as a Professional Engineer. Working level knowledge of ETAP software program. Working level knowledge of nuclear industry cyber security control practices. Experience with nuclear industry standard design process. Special Requirements In lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified. Able to achieve and maintain nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance. This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty. Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed. Additional hours expected as workload/business need requires including refueling outage and support of emergent plant issues. Occasional overnight travel. Working Conditions Typically, an office environment with some work in the plant to conduct system walkdowns and field support of modification implementation. The work week is Monday – Thursday (Fridays/weekends as needed), 10-hour days. After completion of initial training and/or obtaining applicable qualifications, the candidate will work a hybrid schedule – two days onsite, two days remote. Hybrid Mobility Classification Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
