    The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George's County is seeking a Complex Manager to perform day-to-day operational duties at the Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex within the Southern Recreation and Leisure Services Division. The successful incumbent will have a high degree of specialized knowledge and expertise related to recreation.

    Please note that the above salary range represents earning potential. The budgeted salary range for this position is $71,037 - $99,583. Salary is commensurate with experience.


    Examples of Important Duties

    Financial Management:


    • Ensure accuracy of Lawson accounting units, expenditure codes, and activity codes on financial documents and reports.
    • Oversee the development and completion of cost recovery plans.
    • Track budget using cost recoveries and spending plans.
    • Conduct monthly reviews with staff to ensure compliance with expenditure allocations and revenue projections.
    Personnel Management:
    • Schedule regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports.
    • Lead staff in career development, capacity building, programming, and budget processes.
    • Communicate job expectations to direct reports.
    • Hold staff accountable for non-compliance through counseling, coaching, documentation, and disciplinary action if needed.
    • Ensure staff are compliant with Merit Rules, Administrative Procedures, Administrative Practices, and other Commission regulations.
    Meetings and Communication:
    • Schedule group meetings with Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex staff.
    • Schedule one-on-one meetings with career staff outside of SRLS divisional staff.
    • Schedule group meetings with all career staff that program within the Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex.
    • Communicate regularly with all stakeholders, including civic associations, recreation councils, councilmembers, political figures, and other community partners.
    Programming and Events:
    • Lead facility staff to ensure special emphasis programming and special events are implemented, reviewed, and approved in advance.
    • Ensure there is ample time (30 days or more) for marketing.
    Community Engagement:
    • Serve as the liaison for the Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex as well as conduct meetings for Civic Associations, Recreation Councils, council members, political figures, and other community partners.
    • Work with community groups and share the department’s vision, mission, and initiatives.
    Audits and Reporting:
    • Conduct quarterly audits of Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex and submit findings within one week.
    • Ensure employees complete paperwork monthly, including AED reporting, alarm logs, projected schedules, facility inspections, vehicle logs, and monthly highlights and actual time analysis consistently by the 5th of each month.
    Professional Development:
    • Register career and intermittent staff for continuing education and professional development classes training.
    Code of Conduct and Workplace Culture:
    • Follow the entire code of conduct daily and ensure the team models it.
    • Actively participate in workplace culture activities and regularly use the workplace culture toolkit improve self and work relationships.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Parks Management, Recreation Management, Facilities Management, Education, Business Administration, Physical Education, Communication, Leisure Services, or any related field.
    • Four (4) years of responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, leisure services, or area of required specialty (e.g., arts, performing arts, equestrian, tennis, aquatics, gymnastics, ice rinks); including two (2) years as a facility manager, program coordinator or supervisor.
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total eight (8) years.
    • Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of the position.
    • Contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require valid: (a) operating license (e.g., county pool operator, childcare license) as appropriate; (b) First Aid, CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED) certifications; or (c) certifications as related to assignment (e.g., Lifeguard Instruction, Fundamentals of Gymnastics, Childcare?).
    • Pass Commission medical exam.
