    Salary: $22.14 hour

    A. GENERAL PURPOSE:

    Under the direction of the Recreation Superintendent, organizes, coordinates, and supervises recreational programing, including an after-school program, youth and adult sports, youth and adult camps, new program development and special events. Work varies, requiring interpretive judgment and decision making. Work often requires working nontraditional hours including some nights and weekends.

    B. SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

    Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Superintendent.

    C. SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

    Supervises seasonal recreation employees and volunteers with varied responsibilities and skills. Provides guidance, training, instruction and technical assistance needed for recreational programing, camp center, sports programs, and youth camp personnel.

    D. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Note: It is expected that every employee should be on time, fully prepared, every day that they are scheduled to work. We expect employees to strive for perfect attendance. Due to the demands of programs on this position, scheduled hours and days worked will be varied. Some evening and weekend shifts will be required based on programming and special events.

    Recreation/ Youth Sports/Adult Sports (70%):

    a. Plan and schedule special events, recreational activities and youth and adult sports.

    b. Supervises classes, workshops and activities for persons engaged in recreation programs and co-sponsored programs.

    c. Supervises seasonal recreation/sports employees and volunteers. Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates and disciplines as necessary.

    d. Receives and acts upon inquiries, complaints; following incident protocols and responds to emergency calls at any time including outside of regular scheduled hours.

    e. Responsible for frequent contacts with the public and fellow employees; requiring considerable tactfulness and communication skills of complex information.

    f. Completes site visits to evaluate programs, counselors and participants to determine public needs and how to increase efficiency and value.

    g. Assists or conducts preparation of budget estimates and activity reports.

    h. Develops social media posts for promoting programs and community awareness.

    i. Develops and utilizes data base for tracking participation.

    Youth Camps/Afterschool/Aquatics/Special Events (20%):

    a. Schedule and assist in supervision of out of school camps, afterschool programs, summer youth and adult camps, and or pool schedules.

    b. Supervises seasonal employees and volunteers. Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates and disciplines as necessary.

    c. Assist in developing curriculum, programs, outings, and special events to enhance participant experience.

    d. Receives and acts upon inquiries, complaints; following incident protocols and responds to emergency calls at any time.

    e. Completes site visits to evaluate facilities, staff, and participants to determine public needs and how to increase efficiency and value.

    f. Responsible for frequent contacts with the public and fellow employees; requiring considerable tactfulness, diplomacy and communication skills of complex information.

    g. Assists or conducts preparation of budget estimates and activity reports.

    h. Develops social media posts for promoting programs and community awareness.

    i. Develops and utilizes a data base for tracking participation.

    Peripheral duties (10%):

    a. Serves as a member of various employee and community committees, as assigned.

    b. Assists with procurement of services and supplies as needed along with administrative duties pertaining to programs.

    c. Works with the Recreation Superintendent in implementing program policies related to programing, as well as reviewing and suggesting new policies for consideration of approval.

    d. Other duties as assigned.

    E. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience):

    a. Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent, and five years of progressively responsible recreation programming and leisure services or

    b. A degree in Recreation Administration, Sports Management, Leisure Studies, Physical Education or closely related field and two years of progressively responsible recreation programming and leisure services

    c. Or any combination of education and equivalent experience.

    F. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’s):

    a. Knowledge in planning, organizing and implementing sports programing, youth camps, after school programs, adult programming, wellness programs and aquatic programming.

    b. Skilled in computers and related software such as Microsoft office and other computer programs necessary or as assigned. (Publisher, Photoshop, Access)

    c. Skilled in team leadership and management.

    d. Skilled in researching of programs and development thereafter.

    e. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing with supervisors, department heads, city employees, employee teams and members of the public.

    f. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all city employees, and the public toward the common goal of providing high quality services.

    g. Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments/projects and priorities simultaneously to ensure the fulfillment of projects, tasks and responsibilities.

    h. Ability to suggest and carry out procedures to assure highest standards of risk management, employee safety and risk avoidance.

    G. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    a. Must possess a valid Montana Driver’s license upon date of hire.

    b. History of a satisfactory driving record.

    c. First Aid/CPR certified.

    H. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

    A variety of motor vehicles, electronic instruments, phone, calculators, computers, related software programs, hand tools and various sports equipment used in fitness, sports programs and swimming pools.

    I. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
