Medical Records Coding Manager supervises and trains a team of medical coders to ensure medical records are coded with accuracy and completeness. Ensures medical records coding operations follow the latest guidelines and compliance standards. Being a Medical Records Coding Manager maintains required documentation and confidentiality of patient records. Implements processes for coding operations that support the needs of other healthcare partners. Additionally, Medical Records Coding Manager develops and maintains up-to-date knowledge of the latest ICD and CPT coding versions and ensures coders receive updates and training on classification or guideline changes. Is a certified medical coder and the exact type of coding certification may vary based on the clinical setting or a medical specialty focus. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, a related field, or equivalent. Depending on the setting typically requires the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification. May additionally have the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Medical Records Coding Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Medical Records Coding Manager typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes. Responsibilities
The Coding Manager has a key role in the planning, development, implementation and maintenance of coding processes, coding policies and education. Leads coding integrity-related projects including coding validation, data analysis, productivity monitoring, performance reporting and coding education. The GHMC Coding Manager initiates, executes and manages projects associated with coding initiatives and coordinates and supervises coding and abstracting functions across GHMC. Responsible for assuring compliance in coding area.

Compensation for the role is $93,756 USD- $117,195 USD per year.
Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity)
Qualifications
Minimum Education: A degree in Health Information Management or related health field preferred.
Minimum Experience- At least two years’ experience of Coding in a supervisory capacity and at least four years coding experience in a Hospital setting.
- Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM, PCS, CPT coding classifications.
- Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations regarding coding and abstracting for hospital facilities.
- Must have prior supervisory experience or experience as a Lead Coder.
Physical Requirements: Travel to multiple facilities is required.
Working Conditions- Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well- lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards.
- Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 10 lbs.
- Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
