Administrative Assistant/Medical Records

Job Summary:

The Administrative Assistant/Medical Records is responsible for managing and maintaining the health information system of the Southern Utah Veterans Home. This includes ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality of all patient health records, as well as overseeing the release of information to authorized parties. The Adminstrative Assistant/Medical Records also supervises the Health Information Technicians and provides training and support as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and maintain the health information system, including electronic health records and paper records
• Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality of all patient health records
• Oversee the release of information to authorized parties, including healthcare providers, insurance companies, and legal entities
• Supervise the Health Information Technicians and provide training and support as needed
• Develop and implement policies and procedures related to health information management
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to health information management, including HIPAA
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and other projects as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in health information management, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role
• Strong knowledge of health information management principles and practices, including electronic health records
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications
