Overview
Promotes strategic, consultative, general organization-wide communication plans for all levels of employees, media, and community. Ensures timely, accurate and consistent information by developing and coordinating all communication facets and implements communication projects through expertise in project management, writing, collateral design and intranet development. Instills DCH Health System’s mission, vision and values throughout the organization. Responds to customer needs in a manner that provides added value and generates customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- In tandem with updating news on intranet home page, produces and distributes weekly employee e-newsletter by the end of work Wednesday (except for holiday weeks).
- Serves as main media contact for organization. Will need to be available to respond to media requests outside typical working hours/days.
- Produces and distributes press releases as needed. Escorts media while onsite to ensure compliance with patient privacy practices.
- Generates a weekly “evergreen” communication to local media designed to proactively promote DCH.
- Writes leader speaking points as needed.
- Acts as portal administrator for intranet, ensuring consistent look across System pages. Assists content owners with training and troubleshooting issues. Adds new features/pages based on System needs.
- Coordinates employee communications processes for management and employees in consultation with Human Resources. Promotes positive employee relations through organization-wide communication activities and events. Provides innovative ideas and resources that positively affect employee relations. Evaluates outcomes and takes corrective action as necessary.
- Actively participates on project teams, providing leadership and communication expertise. Synthesizes messages to support the corporate mission, vision, values, goals and objectives. Constantly focuses on continuous improvement.
- Coordinates specific communication needs for departments and effectively applies departmental resources to achieve agreed-upon communication goals.
- Uses knowledge of current Communication Department, Human Resources and healthcare practices. Identifies and uses appropriate sources of expertise. Uses understanding of business and financial principles and practices to craft appropriate solutions. Consistently complies with corporate branding, positioning, graphic standards and Communication Department and Human Resources policies and procedures. Creates, standardizes and complies with branding, graphic standards and writing style. Maintains appropriate confidentiality.
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance including the flexibility to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field required. Media or corporate communications experience preferred. Demonstrated project management, consultative, analytical thinking, communication, leadership and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated writing, editing and proofreading skills, creativity, resourcefulness and ability to work on multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines and functioning in an environment of changing priorities. Ability to analyze data and write communication plans and reports. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel. Working knowledge of desktop publishing software (such as the Creative Suite – InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator) preferred. Journalistic writing, web/intranet development skills and printing knowledge a plus. Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet. Employee must maintain personal automobile liability insurance, and employee must be and remain insurable according to the standards that are established by DCH’s insurer, as they exist at any time. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
