Managing Attorney is responsible for managing the daily operations of a law firm or an organization's legal department. Provides leadership and participates in the most complex legal actions. Being a Managing Attorney directs law office operations, case assignments, and staffing. Oversees the activities and work products of subordinate attorneys. Additionally, Managing Attorney monitors case status, timelines, and issues. Mentors and coaches attorneys and implements staff professional development programs. Requires a JD. Requires State Bar membership. Typically reports to top legal executive. The Managing Attorney manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. OVERVIEW
The Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) is the pro bono program of the Nebraska State Bar Association (NSBA). Created in the early 1980s, VLP furthers the NSBA mission, “The Nebraska State Bar Association works for Nebraska lawyers to help them achieve the highest standards of competence, ethics and professionalism and to protect and promote the administration of and access to justice.” VLP creates and coordinates pro bono opportunities that are convenient, rewarding, and impactful for Nebraska lawyers. The VLP General Managing Attorney helps plan, implement and maintain pro bono activities across Nebraska, assists with all VLP programs, and leads on case referral efforts.
This position is full-time and grant funded. The position requires significant interaction with lawyers, nonlawyers and members of the general public. General work hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with some evening, weekend, and extended workdays. This position may require occasional travel to attend activities and events.
