Machinist assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts or components for tools or machines by operating mechanical equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels of the finished product. Being a Machinist selects and operates the appropriate tools to cut, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or composite material. Sets up, services, and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally, Machinist utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Sets up and operates machine shop equipment, to include manual Vertical Mills, Lathes, Drills, with CNC experience as well as programming CNC machines
Operate ALL equipment by following all safety rules to include Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE), machine guarding, hazard communications, etc.
Studies blue prints, sketches, drawings, or specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Performs a wide range of turning, facing chamfering, cutting off and similar machining operations, on a variety of castings, parts, special orders, rework, re-machining, etc. of various materials.
Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, etc.
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, depth and angle of cut.
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings.
Keep work area clean and orderly.
Report all unusual conditions to supervisor.This position requires visibility to controlled documents
