Nature of Work
Working for the Departments of Health, Health Facilities, and Human Services in the Office of Shared Administration in the Office of Human Resources Management, this position, under general supervision, will work at the full performance level administering an occupational safety program designed to ensure compliance with all federal and state workplace safety requirements within an agency. The Safety/Loss Control Specialist will conduct safety surveys of health, safety and environmental conditions, and will create training to address safety needs. They will analyze loss information to develop effective solutions for agencies; will work with agencies to file workers compensation claims expediently and manage the Return to Work programs. This position will complete Bureau of Labor Statistics Reports and lead safety committee meetings. This position will be required to travel.
Minimum Qualifications
Training: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
OR
Substitution: Experience as described below may be substituted for the required training at the rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of education.
AND
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience related to safety and loss control.
OR
Substitution: Master's degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene from a regionally accredited college or university may be substituted for the two (2) years of experience required. OR Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certification as an Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associated Safety Professional (ASP), or an Associate in Loss Control Management (ALCM) may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
Special Requirement: A valid driver's license is required.
