The Licensing Clerk works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     SALARY GRADE: Flat Rated


    The Office of the Clerk of Superior Court, Harnett County, seeks an individual to perform advanced office/clerical duties within the Clerk's Office. This position will require direct contact with citizens assisting them with court matters in person, by phone and e-mail. Deputy Clerks in this position could perform a variety of tasks including working in courtrooms, dictation of judgments, customer service, data entry, typing, filing, answering phones, cash receipting, case file indexing, scanning, electronic filing and an assortment of other court functions.

    Applicants must be detail oriented; have basic and advanced computer skills; be a team player with an ability to work under pressure; work independently and think ahead; keep matters confidential; interact pleasantly with a diverse population; perform routine mathematical computations; ability to type at a suitable pace with accuracy; analyze and interpret information and make necessary decisions with accuracy; multi-task; communicate effectively in person, by telephone and written correspondence and a variety of other tasks.

    Applicants would be applying for a position within the Clerk of Superior Court's office with the possibility of working in multiple divisions.

    New hires may be paid above the minimum rate depending on education and experience in a North Carolina Clerk of Superior Court office.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies



    Knowledge of: NC general statutes; policies and procedures related to the local judicial district; criminal, civil, juvenile and estate proceedings; as well as general office and clerical procedures.

    Skills in: basic math; active listening; managing a high volume of public interaction; effectively communicating both verbally and in writing; fast, accurate data entry; and MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    Ability to: read and comprehend legal documents; interact diplomatically with a diverse group of people; multi-task; adjust to unexpected events; meet deadlines; organize and manage files; work independently; maintain confidentiality; and provide procedural information without giving legal advice.


    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements



    High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 18 years of age. Harnett County residents preferred.

    Elected Clerk prefers applicants with professional experience working in a courthouse or law office.
