Library Services Manager manages the daily planning, staff, and operations for the acquisition, classification, maintenance, licensing, and distribution of print and digital materials to meet the information needs of library users. Coordinates process to research, review, identify and procure new materials to develop the library's collection. Being a Library Services Manager performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Develops and oversees support, service, and technology resources to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, Library Services Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Library Services Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Library Services Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

    • Oversees LibCal room reservation software, including daily management and vendor relations. Works with internal and external stakeholders to set policies, manage spaces, and troubleshoot system errors.
    • Manages the room reservation request queue, including communicating with customers to determine the best space for their session or event, booking events in LibCal, and working with stakeholders from multiple library departments to update policies and procedures as needed. 
    • Supports equipment lending services lead, including training and coordination of issues at multiple libraries across campus. This includes inventory, storage, and security control; initial response to routine problems; damage assessment re: wear and tear versus customer responsibility for damage; liaison with library IT; assessment and benchmarking for policy/procedure changes; provide software and technology support and training for library staff, part-time student employees and library customers.
    • Supports investigation and acquisition of cutting-edge hardware, software, and maker technology.
    • Acts as a liaison to New Student Orientation and Disability Resource Center groups for technology and space needs.
    • Oversees multiple AIS service sites: Provides customers with reference, technology, and circulation assistance. Provides leadership including solving problems and making non-routine decisions.
    • Support efforts to create an environment conducive for study, meetings, and collaboration (i.e., academic and scholarly endeavors) by enforcing compliance with the Libraries Code of Conduct policies and through application of other pertinent Libraries and University policies and procedures.
    • Makes schedule adjustments as needed to assist with service coverage.
    • Supports the ongoing collection, management, and analysis of departmental and library use and needs assessment data including data required for departmental and library projects and strategic planning.
    • Supports the library in its mission and vision in providing excellent customer service, and by serving on library-wide projects, and by improving student awareness of the suite of services and resources offered by the library through participation in campus public programming, student education and success events.
    • Facilitates meetings, makes presentations as needed, and participates in data-based decision making.
    • The UA Libraries support the UA’s diversity and inclusiveness strategic initiatives designed to create an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students.  The candidate is expected to support diversity and inclusiveness efforts in the department and college.

    • Ability to communicate with internal and external customers with a high degree of professionalism.

    • Ability to exercise sound judgment.
    • Leadership skills, including excellent initiative, organizational and time management skills; use of good judgment and solid analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision. 
    • High degree of computer/digital fluency (hardware/software). This includes basic working knowledge of selection, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and supporting computers and associated peripheral hardware. Ability to monitor trends and learn to use physical and virtual maker technology such as 3D printers/scanners and virtual reality.
    • Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to collaborate with peers to meet customers’ needs and ensure customer satisfaction.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond positively to unanticipated changes while exhibiting follow through and flexibility under demanding circumstances. This involves the ability to work proactively and constructively to identify, define and solve problems with customers and colleagues within the unit and library wide.
    • Ability to use Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite (current version) as well as familiarity with library technology, including skills in troubleshooting hardware, software, and equipment. 
    • Understanding of the research and reference process as well as a broad understanding of various types of reference sources (e.g., library catalog, indexes, web-scale discovery services, search engines, virtual and print resources) and their appropriate uses, including understanding the differences between primary and secondary resources.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on the design, development, delivery and assessment of training materials, train groups and individuals whose learning styles, levels of academic preparedness, and backgrounds vary greatly in effective use of library resources and research tools as well as experience evaluating individuals based on established work expectations.
    • Knowledge of advanced data collection and information research methods, including the knowledge of specialized data analysis software (e.g., LibAnalytics, Excel, and Qualtrics). Skill in facilitating meetings and delivering presentations.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to work in a highly collaborative and inclusive environment, one that values and leverages the benefits of diverse perspectives.
