LIBRARIAN develops and maintains a collection of books and other materials and provides research and reference support to library users. Researches publications and suggests new sources and offerings for acquisition to enhance the collection. Being a LIBRARIAN performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Designs and delivers research support processes and services to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, LIBRARIAN distributes up-to-date information on new acquisitions, library activities, and services. Oversees the selection and maintenance of technology infrastructure and tools used in the library. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The LIBRARIAN occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     Position Overview: The librarian has the primary responsibility for the functions of the school library: evaluation and selection; ordering and processing; utilization of media; and the instructional role, which includes both formal and information instruction in library, media and technology information skills as well as assistance to students and staff in location, evaluating and using library media materials and technologies. The secondary role of the librarian is as a teacher/substitute teacher. The librarian will teach/cover up to three blocks a day.

    Salary Range: $63,113 - $103,515. (Starting salary is determined by education and years of relevant experience)

    Qualifications: 

    • A four year bachelor’s degree in any field.
    • A Master's of Library Science degree preferred.
    • At least one year of librarian experience preferred.
    • Teaching experience preferred.

    Essential Attributes:

    • Promote culturally relevant literacy for all students and staff through building and maintaining of diverse texts and library resources and library programming that is inclusive of diverse authors and stories.
    • Have a genuine love for books and the desire to share that love with students.
    • Be a literary information expert in the school - will know a shifting array of search tools that reach into blogs and wikis and Twitter and images and media and scholarly content.
    • Have the skills to create and maintain a website or portal to pull together resources to meet the specific needs of the learning community. 
    • Ensure the learners and teachers can (physically & intellectually) access developmental and curricular databases, portals, websites, blogs, videos, and other media. 
    • Help learners put together their own personal information portals and Knowledge Building Centers to support their research and learning, using widgets, embedded media, and personal information portals like iGoogle,PageFlakes ,and NetVibes and wikis and Google Sites
    • Teach or cover up to three blocks a day, as decided by leadership. 
    • Interest and desire to engage in the IB MYP and language immersion programs.  
    • Engage in continual professional development.
    • Collaborate with general and special educators, coordinators, and leaders. 
    • High degree of communication through a variety of mediums with parents and students
    • Embrace French, Spanish, and Chinese cultures by leading and participating in cultural activities for faculty and students
    • Ensure that our 1:1 Chromebooks program is implemented effectively for students by infusing technology into instruction.
