Position Description
Job Title : General Service Technician
Department: Service
Summary:
Functions as a skilled-level technician who is able to perform diagnoses and repairs in all areas, in addition to being specialized in particular areas of repair.
Essential Duties:
- Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards and according to customer request.
- Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
- Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
- Ensures parts department signs-off as receiving warranty return parts on Repair Orders
(Hard Copy)
- Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order, including an accurate and legible customer complaint, cause and correction as performed.
- Returns repair orders at the end of the workday to the dispatch office.
- Contacts shop foreman to assist in diagnosis of unusual problems.
- Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
- Attends Dept. meetings and on-site factory training.
- Keeps abreast and maintains file of manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
- Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
- Ensures that customers' buses are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
- Keeps shop area neat and clean.
- Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
- Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
Marginal Duties:
- Maintains satisfactory personal inventory of hand and power tools necessary to complete assigned tasks. Ability to travel to customer locations on request which may include overnight travel. Communicates with all customers, co-workers and on-site visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises and instructs apprentice technicians, when assigned, in areas of safety and repair of vehicles.
- Conducts performance appraisals, with service manager, for any assigned apprentice.

Education and/or Experience:
- Minimum two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications.
- Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Certification
- Brakes Certification
- Electrical/Electronic Systems Certification
- Engine Performance Certification for
- Heating and Air Conditioning Certification
- Manual Drive Train and Axle Certification
- Suspension and Steering Certification
- Advanced Series - Automobile Advanced Engine Performance Certification.
- Advanced Vehicle Systems.
- Steering and Suspension.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour
