CONSTRUCTION CONTROLLER
The Construction Controller will be responsible for the performance and oversight of company and project accounting and reporting activities. Reporting to the General Manager and working with the leadership team, you will have overall accountability for planning, coordinating, and completing all accounting operational functions, and ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
Your position includes, but is not limited to, the following job responsibilities:
Financial Management (25%)
- Management and oversight of company’s cash and cash flow.
- Management of Accounts Receivable, processing of project invoices, and ensuring timely payment by clients with the support of Project Managers.
- Validation of Accounts Payable as prepared by the Bookkeeper, preparing and validating check runs, and verifying approval process for subcontractor payments.
- Oversight of loan programs, payments, and ensuring company follows associated fiscal requirements and responsibilities.
- Oversight of bonding program, bond requests, and tracking of any liens or claims.
- Oversight of 401K and health insurance plans for non-union employees.
- Management of commercial insurance program. Obtains statistics and information in renewal process of General Liability and Worker’s Compensation insurance policies. Examine methods to help reduce costs.
Payroll, Taxes, and Liabilities (50%)
- Review and finalize weekly payroll runs, with the support of the Bookkeeper, providing backup as necessary.
- Prepare and file all monthly, quarterly, and annual city, state, and federal taxes.
- Prepare and pay payroll and union liabilities.
- Generates, reviews, and approves journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, depreciation, and other accounting transactions as part of monthly close-out.
- Provides year-end tax preparation and coordination with outside CPA to file income tax return.
Financial Reporting (20%)
- Maintain the company checking account balance and reconciliation in Quickbooks (entries are made via Bank Feeds).
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow preparation.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to develop and monitor project budgets.
- Provide and verify accurate information vital to Work In Progress and forecasting reports.
- Leads coordination of year-end financial review.
- Leads annual budget preparation process.
- Coordinates internal activities to complete external audit requests.
Accounting Department Management (5%)
- Implement and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
- Assesses accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement to internal controls.
- Oversee the monthly close out process, delegating as necessary.
- Manage and retain a skilled accounting team, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Provide backup for other accounting staff as necessary.
- Assists with employee onboarding.
Minimum Requirements
- 7 years of experience in all aspects of commercial construction accounting.
- 2 years of experience directly managing one or more employees.
- High school diploma or GED.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent formal work experience is highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of WIP, job costing, and percentage complete methods of accounting.
- Working knowledge of accounting best practices, general ledger, financial statements, and GAAP.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- A background check is required for this position.
- Experience with Quickbooks Desktop highly preferred.
- Experience with a union contractor highly preferred.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
