- Job Posting End Date 05-31-2024 Please note the job posting will close on the day before the posting end date Job Summary The Director, Internal Communications, develops and designs communications strategies, plans and materials to inform, educate, motivate and engage AEP’s employees and retirees. These communications include news and information regarding corporate strategic priorities and results, announcements, events, initiatives along with cultural, community, crisis and sustainability messages. Responsible for coordinating, counseling and tactically supporting the corporation's primary business units, operating companies and shared services organizations, including counsel on the impact of major company projects. Lead and develop a high-performing team to develop content aligned to strategic communications priorities. Provides support for shared operating company issues such as worker safety. Responsible for ensuring that communications strategies and messages are consistent across the company with respect to major projects, issues and initiatives. Provides overall direction for the development and maintenance of AEP Now -- the AEP corporate intranet and primary internal communications channel, which provides all employees with company information, safety and technical training, collaboration opportunities, senior executive communications and other related information. Create strong, ongoing client relationships with key leaders and internal clients to become their trusted partner and counselor on communication issues. Create a robust plan to support the executive leadership team and enhance their profile internally. Establish, enhance and manage internal channels to enable collaboration and information sharing across teams/businesses and reinforce the company’s culture. Job Description ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy for internal stakeholders, aligned with the company's goals, objectives and values. Lead the internal communications team, providing guidance, coaching and support to ensure effective execution of communications initiatives. Advise executives and corporate leaders on internal communications and projects. Oversee the development and deployment of communications materials and platforms, providing employees and retirees with current information on company strategy, culture, performance, community activities, benefits and industry issues; provide communications support for employee-related programs and initiatives. Ensure that communications strategies and information are consistent across business units and audiences regarding major projects, issues and initiatives. Establish, maintain and evolve metrics that measure and optimize effectiveness of communication strategies and their impact on performance. Plan and direct internal communications activities for major corporate initiatives. Develop and recommend communications objectives to meet the strategic goals of the business units and the company. Plan and implement the effective and innovative use of communications tools, technologies and processes for target audiences. Monitor and analyze employee engagement, providing strategic insights and recommendations to senior leadership to improve and enhance engagement through communications. Maintain the integrity, consistency and image of the AEP brand through conformance with formally developed corporate identity standards. Develop and manage the internal communications team’s budget ensuring effective allocation of resources and cost-effective communications initiatives. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including privacy laws and industry standards for communications practices. Stay up-to-date with emerging communications trends, technologies and best practices to drive innovation and continuous improvement. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education requirements are listed below: Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, public administration, journalism or related discipline. Work Experience requirement listed below: Minimum 10 years of experience in a relevant field. At least 5 years of experience managing direct reports. Superior writing skills and a strong ability to develop accurate and detailed messaging. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Provide liaison function to corporate Human Resources. Oversee communications to employees, contractors and retirees on company activities, benefits and industry issues and provide communications support for employee-related programs and initiatives. Ability to communicate effectively - both in writing and verbally - with clarity, persuasiveness, and precision. Advise leaders on effective communications strategies and personal communications effectiveness. Develop and recommend communications objectives to meet the strategic goals of the business units and the company. Knowledge of current trends and tools for using technology in communications capacities including the internet, intranet, podcasts, video, social media channels, apps, and other communications techniques. Strong oral and technical skills along with business acumen Ability to work with/in a team environment.
