    About The Opportunity

    This position will work on an NIH RO1 funded project as part of a collaborative team of investigators. The selected individual will work under the supervision of Jason Huber, Ph.D. to manage the day-to-day activities within the lab. The specific skills being sought include, animal handling and surgical ability, experience with tissue harvesting and brain sectioning, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, brightfield and confocal microscopy, Western blot and qPCR. In addition, experience with cell culture models would be beneficial.

    What you’ll do:

    • Work with supervisor to manage the different lab areas:
      • Animal studies (animal handling, animal surgery, behavior assessment, necropsy, tissue processing).
      • Surgical set-up (autoclave instruments, set-up area, inventory supplies, inspections).
      • Bench research (Western blot, real time PCR, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy).
      • Lab organization (updating records, organizing digital files, lab inventories, cleaning, scheduling).
      • Lab writing (writing SOPs, lab notebooks, surgical sheets, protocols, etc.)
    • Work closely with other collaborators, graduate and undergraduate students to assist in the completion of studies.
    • Bachelor’s degree in a life or biomedical science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 0-6 months of animal handling and surgical experience.
    • Basic lab skills.
    • Effective time management and laboratory organization skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal directives.
    • Able to work well in teams.
    • Ability to ask for clarification if instructions are not clear.
    • Ability to maintain scientific integrity and ethics.
    • Ability to comply with all compliance regulations (animal, radiation, and lab safety).
    • Ability to work in a safe and thoughtful manner.
    • Ability to be respectful of others.
    • Ability to instruct others in areas of strength.
    • Ability to seek assistance in areas of needed improvement.
    • Ability to maintain an accurate and up-to-date lab notebook.
    • Ability to create and write standard operating procedures, when needed.
