    ABOUT THIS POSITION

    Summary: Colorado Mesa University is seeking qualified applicants for a non-tenure track Instructor of Nursing to teach across nursing programs (BSN, MSN/DNP) at the Grand Junction campus. This position has ongoing responsibility for facilitating student learning in the classroom (in-seat and/or via distance education), laboratory, and/or clinical practice setting. The Instructor of Nursing also assumes joint responsibility with faculty in guiding student learning.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
    • Supervise students’ performance of clinical skills in the lab and/or clinical setting. This includes the ability to demonstrate clinical skills as needed for student learning. 
    • Collaborate with nursing faculty and agency contacts to arrange for clinical experiences in local health care facilities.
    • Supervise student performance of clinical skills and patient care.
    • Evaluate student performance in the clinical setting, including clinical written assignments under the direction and supervision of nursing faculty.
    • Reinforce theoretical and evidence-based content with nursing examples and clinical expectations.
    • Develop positive relationships with other faculty, students, and the clinical sites.
    • Facilitate socialization of students into the professional registered nurse and/or advanced nurse role.
    • Teach assigned classes. This includes content preparation with an emphasis on student engagement and adult learning theory.
    • Incorporate classroom management skills and use of CMU’s learning management system platform required. 
    • Inform all students attending class, in writing and within the time span established by departmental policy, of the course description, policies, and grading criteria.
    • Establish, post, and maintain a minimum of five office hours weekly during each academic term of the academic year. Office hours may vary in delivery (i.e., Zoom, Teams, mornings, afternoon, evening hours) for in-person, online, and hybrid courses or based upon the courses taught and student availability to meet. 
    • Teach the standard teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester; some assigned courses may be taught in face-to-face, online, or hybrid delivery modalities.

    Required Qualifications: 
    • A current license in good standing to practice as a registered nurse in Colorado.
    • A current nurse practitioner license in good standing to practice as a nurse practitioner in Colorado. 
    • A minimum of one year of clinical experience relevant to the area(s) of responsibility with not less than 2 years of full-time (or equivalent) professional nursing practice.
    • Hold a minimum of a doctoral degree (i.e., Ed.D., DNP, Ph.D.) and be either a board-certified family or adult-gerontological nurse practitioner. Nursing degrees must be from an accredited college or university with national nursing accreditation. 
    • Colorado Mesa University is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and who have a demonstrated commitment to improving the levels of access and success for underrepresented students within higher education.
