HVAC Mechanic jobs in Texas

HVAC Mechanic performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Being an HVAC Mechanic follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems. Additionally, HVAC Mechanic maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies. Typically requires an apprenticeship and/or completion of technical training. Requires a high school diploma. The regulations governing the location may require an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The HVAC Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     General Summary:

    Installs, maintains, services and repairs environmental-control systems; utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout. This position requires HVAC Certification.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Installation, service, troubleshooting and repairs including but not limited to; chillers, air handling units, controls, package units, split systems, exhaust fans, refrigerators, freezers, hot/chilled water pumps. Involvement in Site’s predictive maintenance program so previous experience is highly desirable.
    • Tasks ranging from operation of systems to the examination and evaluation of equipment to determine needed repairs
    • Installs refrigeration and air conditioning systems by positioning compressors, motors, condensers, humidifiers, evaporators, heaters and other components in accordance with design specifications.
    • Charges refrigeration systems with refrigerant gas tests for leaks.
    • Starts unit and adjusts it for proper cut-in and cut-out of refrigeration units, humidifiers, heaters, air cleaners, and circulating pumps.
    • Adjust systems for optimal performance.
    • Maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems by checking performance and determining problems. Repairs, adjusts, or replaces defective elements.
    • Installs, maintains and repairs the electrical and pneumatic systems associated with refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
    • Installs, maintains, repairs, operates all types centrifugal and reciprocating refrigeration/air-conditioning systems; also all types of pneumatic/electro-mechanical temperature controls.
    • Performs necessary plumbing procedures to ensure operation of systems and equipment
    • Performs preventive maintenance.
    • Maintain and create Activity Hazard Analysis
    • Involvement in Site’s predictive maintenance program.
    • Records all maintenance and repair work conducted.
    • Assist others as part of the maintenance team as required

    Knowledge, Experience And Skill Requirements

    • Ability to perform most complex and unusual tasks of the craft without supervision.
    • Must be able to read and understand blueprints, construction drawings, schematics and diagrams as they pertain to the craft.
    • Must be able to read and understand the signs, signals, and operating instructions in use in accordance with EM 385-1-1.
    • Ability to perform work of the craft in a rapid and efficient manner under extreme conditions.
    • Must be able to perform work safely under hazardous conditions.
    • Able to troubleshoot and repair most complex problems.
    • Expert knowledge of craft theory and craft materials with the ability to apply the theory and select the proper materials.
    • Must have EPA 608 refrigerant Certification.
    • Must be certified by a nationally recognized HVAC certification program (i.e., North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification or ESCO Institute HVAC Excellence Professional Level Technician Certification).
    • Must be able to pass background.
    • Valid Driver License required with good driving record.

    Working Conditions:

    • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.
    • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
