HVAC Mechanic jobs in New York

HVAC Mechanic performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Being an HVAC Mechanic follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems. Additionally, HVAC Mechanic maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies. Typically requires an apprenticeship and/or completion of technical training. Requires a high school diploma. The regulations governing the location may require an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The HVAC Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     The HVAC Mechanic will be responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of all types of HVAC equipment. They will be assigned a variety of work tickets related to the maintenance of the facility.

    Pay Rate: $36.41 per hour

    Essential Job Functions

    • Performs the maintenance, diagnostic testing, overhauling, installation, and effects repairs on a large variety of types of refrigeration, dehumidification, air-conditioning, ventilation, and heating systems equipment and control
    • Analyze, plan, and perform preventative maintenance of HVAC systems throughout the facility
    • Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and cooling units
    • Diagnose and repair electronic, mechanical, and electrical components of these systems
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant plumbing, electrical, safety, and building codes
    • Ensure the proper working order of the major mechanical and electrical components of all facilities
    • Maintain proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment
    • Assemble and connect pipes and ducts used in piping refrigerants, steam, hot water, and warm or conditioned air
    • Overhaul and repair pumps, compressors, controls, piping ducts, and other equipment used in heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems
    • Calibrate thermostats
    • Repair and maintain a variety of refrigeration unit systems
    • Inspect and test systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications or to detect and locate malfunctions
    • Troubleshoot, repair, and make modifications to HVAC systems
    • Adhere to all city, state, and federal regulatory statutes
    • Maintain maintenance records as required by City, State, and Federal regulations
    • Order and maintain parts needed to repair and maintain HVAC Equipment
    • Properly maintain and safeguard assets
    • Maintain safe chemical storage as deemed
    • Attends all necessary training
    • Other Duties as assigned

    Equipment Used

    • Tools and equipment related to the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems
    • Office equipment such as tablets, computers, fax machines, printers, phones, etc.

    Required Skills, Experience, And Education

    • HS Diploma or Equivalent
    • EPA Universal Certification
    • 3 years of experience as an HVAC Mechanic for large commercial or industrial type facilities
    • Experience maintaining and repairing HVAC systems including but not limited to: chilled water systems; hot water systems; VAV systems; steam heating systems; air conditioning systems; Building Automation Control Systems
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance, upon hire
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
    • Proficiency in using Microsoft and email applications
    • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
    • Ability to effectively utilize available resources to maximize productivity
    • Ability to read schematics and mechanical blueprints
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules
    • Experience in Geothermal, preferred

    Working Environment

    Work takes place in a commercial facility with indoor/ outdoor exposure. Employee may be exposed to loud noises due to machinery or equipment.
