Human Resources Generalist
Job Description:
The Human Resources Generalist is part of the NEA Corporate HR team. The role reports to the CFO and collaborates with the entire HR team on day-to-day HR tasks and responsibilities in MA and MI. The HR Generalist must possess a strong working knowledge of employee relations, employment law, and HR administration. This role requires an experienced, proactive, and organized HR professional who can navigate the unique challenges of the cannabis industry while fostering a supportive and engaging work environment.

Employee Relations:

Promote a positive workplace culture through employee engagement initiatives.

Serve as a resource for employee’s HR-related inquiries.

Provide guidance and coaching to managers on disciplinary action.

Process complaints regarding sexual harassment, discrimination, etc., and conduct investigations when required.

Witness and document employee disciplinary meetings, investigation reports, and terminations when appropriate.

Monitor and track employee performance metrics and job scorecards.
- Compliance and Policy Administration:

Ensure HR compliance (in partnership with the compliance team) with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations specific to the cannabis industry.

Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.

Provide timely and accurate follow-up on all administration requirements for Unemployment Insurance, PFML, COBRA, and Worker’s Comp.
- HR Administration:

Manage HRIS systems and ensure data accuracy.

Prepare HR reports and metrics for management review.

Handle employee benefits administration and payroll processing support.

Manage third-party vendor relationships, including payroll, benefits, and HRIS system.
- Performance Management:

Assist in the development and implementation of the performance management system.

Support managers in conducting performance reviews and setting employee development plans.
- Perform Other Duties as Assigned
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

10 years of experience in HR, preferably in a regulated industry.

Knowledge of HR principles, practices, and employment laws.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Experience with HRIS systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Familiarity with the cannabis industry and its regulatory environment is a plus.

Education and Experience:

A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field is preferred.

At least 7-10 years of Human Resource Generalist experience, ideally in a corporate or retail setting, is required.
Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
